When i was about 8 years old i remember the teacher telling us that the world would run out of oil in 50 years.i remember cause i thought that was terrible and wondered how we`d live with out it.Last year greenpeace or somebody like that friends of the earth, that bunch, presented a report saying the world would run out of oil in 50 years.Now if im not mistaken thats the same report 30 odd years apart.Did somebody find it sitting in a drawer, not notice the date and decide to re-issue it, or were they just wrong in the first place. Al gore with his film is scareing a lot of people these days, hes going to be scareing a lot of kids in edinburgh as the council have decided to make sure every pupil here has to see it. with no alternative to give them a balanced thought. but good old american boy Al misses out somethings in his Inconvenient truth, he actually misses out dare i say it,the truth. small things like the fact that in the middle ages the world was warmer.You wonder where i get this information. its just simple things like when the vikings found Greenland in the middle ages, they called it greenland, because , shock horror it was green. it had wild grapes growing and they were able to plant crops and harvest them there,it didnt have the massive glaciers its had for the last few hundred years, otherwise they would have called it whiteland and described it as a cold and horrible place and said they werent going back.
Other things like castles built in the middle ages with water gates to the sea as a means of entry but are now 1.5 miles from the sea as it has retreated due to water being locked up in the ice caps.There are places in england that were renowned for shipbuilding that now only have a small river nearby that couldnt support anything bigger than a canoe, but previously were building ships off up to 500 tons, because there was more water back then due to it being warmer.
This is one of the earths natural cycles and there is very little you and i can do about it and while i agree it is a good idea to recycle, except when the council use it as an excuse to save money. all that we are doing isnt more than scraping the surface, nor will it ever.
i could rant on about this for ages but i wont, but people for gods sake before you take all this in hook, line and sinker , go and explore things for yourself dont just take what several large, very well organised groups,say is right find out for yourselves.
Ill quickly give you a couple of things worth thinking about.
1. Most weather records that these things are being judged on are only a few years old. there are very few places where reliable weather records go back even as far as 150 years.there are parts of africa where they still dont have reliable weather records for even the last 60 years, in some cases even for last year.
2. Tree ring records ,a very good way of telling rough weather conditions go back as far as a couple of thousand years in living trees and a good bit further in fossilised trees (when they can be found) and all show periods of growth then periods of less growth, sometimes near stagnancy .
3.Greenpeace,friends of the earth etc have a vested interest in talking up these things. it is theyre very reason for being.it increases their funding and keeps them going.
4.Not all scientist believe this is a definite fact. Far from being united on this argument, the scientific community is very,very split on this.
5. A major eruption of a volcano throws out more cfc`s co2 etc than man produces in a year . there are several major eruptions each year.
