Classic TT/Manx GP

So I did a bit of a search on here before I went and have done the same since I got back. It's kinda like it never happened. Did nobody else on here go to the Isle of Man last week? I did and I met a shed load of really nice people(some of them even helped me fix the clutch on the Pantah), saw a bunch of cool bikes and even took in a race or two. Actually, that's underselling it a bit, cos it was fecking awesome......

The beeza guy I bought my aprilia rsv (yes it does not add up) off said my 20 year old ducati was too new for the Manx so I did not go....

yep we went... still sorting through my pics... had a great time despite being in the car :o great weather, lots to see all round good week away.

one pic for now...

Yea great event, sadly senior race cancelled, just back tonight. Sailed from Haysham back via Liverpool, you have to see the port of Liverpool great place to dock.

What have they done to the Manx?
My understanding of the Manx races was you could not enter if you were a professional racer eg: having been paid to race. Once you had done a TT you were not eligable for the Manx because you would have recieved "starting money" when you qualified.
This was a stepping stone in preparation for the TT but now you have well seasoned professional racers taking the limelight away from the newcomers/privateers,an example there was Euan Hamilton (Aberdeen) leading the 250 race upto the last gasp but suffered a mechanical failure any pre interviews? na! but stuck some foreigner with a big bushy beard on, god knows what was living in that!:)
It did look well presented with lots of nostalga but in my oppinion it would have been better left to the privateers and the TT to the professional teams.
Love the Britten pic saw them that at the 94 TT when John Britten brought them over and nice pic o the TT1.

TT racers have always been able to return to the Manx for the classic races, AFAIK.

Loved watching that Pantah #101, BTW. Shame the 750 #100 retired, but the Pantah was prettier.

In fairness to the Manxers the attendances were down and the big names bring the crowds, simples. The pros are still not permitted to enter the modern classes.
As for Euan getting on the telly, well the cameras wouldn't be there if it was just the privateers.
Don't knock publicity i say.
Anyway, none of the TT stars, apart from William Dunlop even finished. Well done Ollie Linsdell, that John McGuinness is rubbish. He couldni even fire up the Hailwood Honda without a hand :)

I suspect that, like me, some visitors to the Manx 'Festival' couldn't make the whole fortnight and kinda cherry-picked which parts interested them the most. I saw many people come and go during the week I was there. So, fewer visitors at any one time (perceivably smaller crowds), but a large number of visitors spread across the fortnight. Just my twopen'orth....

Manx GP

Once again spent another fantastic week on the Island marshalling, there was a rather good Italian bike night in Port Erin on tuesday race week, some real classic Ducatis might post a pic or two. It's nowhere near as busy as the TT but then it's a classic race week looking forward to next year.

I meant visitors were down in recent years, not this one.

Apparantly record numbers showed up, so the manx people should be pleased.

McGuinness rubbish - yeh! He's only won 20 TT's - just back from the Manx and he gave support and guidance to one of our local up and coming riders - and fixed him up with a ride in next years TT - go figure!!

Must remember to stick a few more smileys when taking the p*sh

Anyway, what a state Michael Dunlop's Suzuki was in after the post classic manx. Oil everywhere including his visor. He is seriously mental to ride that at 123mph lap average.

They used to say that Hailwood was rough on his bikes and just got on with it no matter what. Rumour has it that when Hailwood won in 78 on his return to the TT riding the Steve Wynne Ducati, the bike destroyed it's guts on crossing the line:eek:

So did our sidecar, it died on the run up to parc ferme after the second leg. It had been put together with rizla papers wrapped around the main bearings though and built with the last of the debris from a weeks practice and one race.:D
