Cleaned the 749 track bike then started pulling it apart with a view to swapping out the blown engine. The replacement looks like it's been stored underwater although it is/was a good runner with lowish miles and full and recent service history.
I'm thinking I will paint it. Then I'm thinking I will paint the frame while the engine is out.. too far for a track hack? Probably.. where do ya draw the line?
Anyhu, some pics...

Those Skylifts are a superb bit of kit.

More stripping of the 49.
Made up a lil plate thingy for removing the generator side cover. Worked a treat. Revealed that the bearing on the end of the shift inside the stator had shit itself big time. Guess bits of that got through the engine and caused the tractor like noises and knocking... the stator itself is damaged as is the rotor. I've a new rotor .
Anyhu, just spent the day stripping shit off. Some weird shit on this model. The 748 is way easier to work on.
Some pics.

What a fucken palava! Nother few hours today to get the engine out.. there is nothing left of my bike!!!!!! Also realised that the 30mm socket I have aint deep enough to remove the nut offa the crank that holds the fly wheel on..
Anyhu, gone bout as far as a can till we outta lock down. Well, I'm still undecided on weather to paint the frame. Seems mad on a track hack but also mad not to whilst it in bits...

Don't bother trying to get the front mudguard off, it won't shift on those models.

So I got the engine primed and the realised I'd not primed the manifold.. out of primer I had to go get more. Got more, primed manifold and gave the engine another coat... it looks good in white. I might paint it white...

What happens when you have to remove an engine case , won’t the paint crack and flake
because you painted over the seams

Ummmm..... no, I think it will be ok as silicon is used as a gasket and paint don't take to that.
I'll find out in a few days as I have to remove the alternator case to mess about. I'm also to remove all the bolts and replace with stainless so I hope there's not a problem there either.
