So it’s farewell to my Multistrada 1200 (purchased May 2010) and to this Forum.

The best bike I have owned, never let me down (expired battery excepted) and always looked after me with a chassis that was way beyond my riding skill. It has a raw, immediate power delivery and lighter weight than later versions, that I loved and always made me smile.

Instead of an expected change to the V4, I have bought my 1st BMW (@Rotaxracer you started this transition!), an S1000 XR TE M Sport. It has had the pipe changed, centre stand, GPS mount, rear grabrail/rack mount removed saving 13 kgs approx. The M Sport has the 5kgs lighter wheels and it makes a noticeable difference compared to the demonstrator I test rode. This really suited my aims of good power with lower weight and it is just so light and easy to ride with all the latest tech and a fabulous quickshifter. I do miss the massive engine braking and immediate delivery of torque for an overtake that could lift the front wheel in 3rd. Even after the Multi has covered over 41k miles, it still went like a Tasmanian Devil.

I’m really pleased that a friend has rehomed her and I will probably regret the sale but can’t justify running 3 bikes.

After many wonderful trips all over Europe, great rides over the years with other Multistadas (EMM & UK group rides) I am leaving the Ducati clan after a long spell, so goodbye for now, I am off on an extended test ride…..I may be back!

Actually Kirky you might be able to help.

The bmw's both GS 🤮 and XR 🤮 😂, are often spoken of as other choices when some are considering adventure bikes and in particicular the Multistrada.

It would be good to get your opinion/experience/review on going from the multi to the xr and your expectations/observations and experiences to use as comparissons.

As you know, whilst the forum is Ducati first, it also is open to all bikers and all bikes so you having a bmw is doesn't mean you have to be a stranger.

Enjoy the new toy (y)

Don't go man.... even if you've moved away from the Italian flavour we are all bikers or were.
You've organised some great runs over the years.
Take care and ride safe.

Thanks and will keep that in mind after I've done some proper trips.
Early impressions; not as "special" as the old Multi, miss the engine braking and sound. Quickshifter is perfect, great brakes and chassis, very easy and light to ride. Equipment is a generation apart.

Cheers Paul. How many Multis do you have now? And did you find a nice Pikes Peak gen 1?

Just two twin spark PP's.
Never found a PP gen 1 with the right spec.... but I will.
I've a spare 749R engine and apparently some magic can be worked with the Gen one engine..... and the heads... but I may have dreamt this.

I still think the Gen 1 engine was the most powerful and entertaining. I think CJS back that up. Mine ran beautifully with the full Arrows system and I'd even see 54mpg on a long trip. I would swap it for the highly rated 1000cc XR IL4 any time.

I really regret not buying Jenson Buttons gen 1 PP that only had a few hundred miles on it after being used as his Silverstone pit bike.

Hows you, B and the family doing Chiz? been out on the bikes much?
No, not been out much at all..
Both younger bros have covid and 1 has been diagnosed with kidney cancer.. life is a bit shit atm.. my brain is fried...
But I'm down in Auckland for 4 days over Easter to shag Bridget senseless so that should take my mind off things for 3 minutes or so...
