Chainsaw(er)

Got a huge pile of tree branches all dried in the garage ready for winter.

Managed to saw the smaller ones up but scratching my head about the bigger ones.

Think am gonna need a chainsaw but knowing my DIY skills will probably chop my leg off.

Any help/ideas???

Will make it worthwhile.....

If you have never used a chainsaw this isn't the time to start! Either get someone with one to do it for you or maybe get an electric one from B&Q etc.
Not as heavy duty as a 2 stroke motor but for branches it should be fine.

Tried that last year...borrowed 2 different electric ones from workmates and I just couldnt get it to cut the larger branches/logs.

Not sure if it was the type of wood but also was having difficulty keeping the logs still enough to cut without doing myself injury.
Hence why am looking for someone with experience perhaps???...................
 
You need something to hold the branges/logs steady whilst you cut them.
Something like this or this may be the answer. You could make something out of spare bits of wood?
You could possibly also use a Black & Decker workbench to hold the branch steady while you cut it.
The electric ones should be powerful enough if they are just branches.

Hi Robbie,

You could invest in a log spliter , they,re a great idea - my mate has one for the logs with a rough grain that he can,t do with the axe.

A right good heavy axe would maybe do the job for you too . Great work out too !!..;)

He will have to cut them to length before he can use a log splitter and an axe to cut them to length in my experience means way too much work and you lose half of the wood in chippings.:o

I thought about that.....but there are about 20-30 branches each about 4-5foot long and about 10-20cm in diameter.

Its taken me 2 afternoons so far to to cut the 20-30 smaller branches (ranging from 5-10cm) into pieces and quite frankly my arms & back are killing me...so looking for the quick and easy option now........
...am not used to this manual labour stuff.........
 
Wish I had seen this earlier cos I sell all kinds of chainsaws at the garage (Stihl dealer) and could have done you one at a good price!!:eek: I have a stihl comfort for chopping limbs (wooden) and its really safe if you are positive with it, don't be too gentle would also advise a pair of stihl chainsaw gloves, saves you chopping yer digits off!!!!:D

He he could have put the bike on a paddock stand back wheel off and replaced rear sprocket with a saw blade (yee harrr red neck style):lol2::lol2:

Bruce - do you know if a hedge trimmer attachment is available for a FS76 brush cutter? Cheers.


As to the rest of this thread.... folk that don't have saw horses, buying rather than making a saw horse, electric chainsaws ... FFS

Not being funny but that's fair enough if you've got the ability but what if you don't? Some people are good with their hands, some their feet, some their head. If you don't have the confidence or skills then what's the problem?

That's like me saying FFS to someone who couldn't explain the Kreb's Cycle or what causes diabetes etc!!!!!

What I am trying to say is...Horses for Courses if you get what I mean?...no pun intended

Ok R'T you can say FFS to me who the hell is Kreb and has he no got an engine in his cycle :lol2::lol2:
