A rare beast even in the '70s and '80sBack in the day, I had an allegro, not just an ordinary allegro, a 1974 1750 sport special with twin SU's, in reddy orange.
It was actually a bit of a sleeper, I had a bit of go with an escort XR3 and a porsche 924 on the M62 they were racing each other, I passed them both doing an indicated 120.

When you look at that list is it any wonder they went bust.Bringing back lots of memories all these automotive gems, I did my apprenticeship on these " cars" and all the other Leyland gems like Dolomites, Stags, Rover SDI in its various forms and who could forget the Mini Metro, Morris Ital, Maestro and Montego. What an effing bunch of nightmares.
I forgot the Mini Metro. I had one of those as well. Going to work one morning at about 60 mph the bonnet catch let go and the bonnet flew up and smashed against the windscreen, bending the baulkhead and writing the car off. Luckily I was on a straight stretch of road with nothing in front of me because I couldn't see a thing. I managed to come to a stop unscathed and kept the car on the tarmac by following the verge.Bringing back lots of memories all these automotive gems, I did my apprenticeship on these " cars" and all the other Leyland gems like Dolomites, Stags, Rover SDI in its various forms and who could forget the Mini Metro, Morris Ital, Maestro and Montego. Mine was about £1200. They're fetching 10 to 12 grand now..I forgot the Mini Metro. I had one of those as well. It was literally a clown car. I bought a vintage single headlight BMW 316 after that which was like a Rolls Royce in comparison.
And none of them had carbon ceramic brakes (just to keep the thread on track).Bringing back lots of memories all these automotive gems, I did my apprenticeship on these " cars" and all the other Leyland gems like Dolomites, Stags, Rover SDI in its various forms and who could forget the Mini Metro, Morris Ital, Maestro and Montego. A lot of them didn't have brakes full stop. Today you see hot hatches on their roofs in hedges with police aware tape round them. Back in my day it was Dolly Sprints. A mate of mine wrote off two.And none of them had carbon ceramic brakes (just go keep the thread in track).
