The factory is a lot of bike for the money but take one for a test ride first!! I had a loaner for a few days while the 999 was getting serviced and initial impressions were that it felt a lot bigger than the 999, i wasn't that impressed by the engine, i had to rev it hard to get it to move, you couldn't ride the torque like you can on a testastretta engine, more gear shifting needed which was weird cos tuonos seem the opposite.

Handling seemed good at first, you tip in a lot easier than a 999 when it was almost too fixed, on the 999 you just make small movements to change line mid corner but the RSV needed a lot more effort. I came to conclusion the front end was like the old ZX7R.

It felt more like a Honda SP2 than a Ducati, i had one of them before the 999 :) I'm quite small so prefer bikes i can flick around and hang off, the RSV fely like it needed more muscling about than either an SP2 or 999.

Stacks more bike for your money though and no silly fan belts running a 21 century engine. Cheaper servicing and unless your a superbike rider I doubt whether you will notice the subtle differences, road riding. If its like the 03 bike it will be tall and will suit a taller rider. Dwarfs need not apply.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...the 999 is a ducati failure in the eye candy dept.
