Breakdown Cover

At the moment, I am with START Rescue for my car and old KTM. I have never used them for a real breakdown.

I have the bare-assed cheek to want to delete my old KTM from the policy and replace it with the new one. This seems not to be possible and they reject my new registration number, when I try to update the old KTM to the new.

I don't take kindly to this shit. This is only admin and not a real breakdown, but if this is an example of heir shit, I don't trust them. On the phone app, I did try to log a breakdown just to see how simple if was - it isn't and I gave up on step 3 out of 6. All you need to know is your policy number, where you are and what is wrong, but that is faaaaaarrrrr too simple, and we have to go into the details of what colour underwear are you wearing - or summit!

I have been with most of the big ones over the years and found them all to be shit. Maybe the only way to make a profit is too slim right back on patrols whilst keeping their fees up. I did do a contract for the RAC once and no expenses was spared on their building, staff benefits, and the interior. They even had a policy of keeping the lights on 24/7 in order o give the impression that they were always working. I would leave at about 6:30pm, when the building would be deserted!

Anyone got any good experiences with a breakdown company?

On the phone to START now, on hold while a supervisor is sought. Apparentley, it was all the DVLA's fault for not giving enough information, that in the space of a phone call was all sorted out. Was Mr Liar, or Mr Incompetent in the building?

Still going to move on. I had to provide a registration number, name and address, and date of renewal, and policy number before they could continue to sort out THEIR mess. When I pointed out that if I had broken down, then this information would not be to hand, I was told that none of this shit would be required, but as I am moaning, they have a responsibility to make my life as hard as possible. So, thanks for letting me know that!

I've cancelled the automatic renewal.

I have until September to find an alternative.

I have trouble with figuring out the standard day to day terms. Can you image how much of a mindf@ck the small print would be?

I read the title and thought it was an insurance for everyone who may come into communication range of @PerryL .
The title of the thread is "Breakdown Cover" and it is insurance against breaking down.

I struggle to understand your beef, unless there is a specific area for Breakdown Cover, that I have missed. And perhaps, for Ducati, there should be!

And I believe you... I really do.

After 10 years with the RAC using Tesco Clubcard points I didn't renew due to the reduced points value. Not had a call out in 10 years but not having cover was a bit unnerving so Googled today. AA came up with a half price offer for today only so got personal cover including onward travel or rescue to home for £75 for the year which was a bit of a bargain :)

I joined the AA this year then I read the reviews after which were shocking. 😬
I had the breakdown included with my insurance before and it was excellent the one time I had to use it.

My mate's jag had a problem - something to do with the electronic handbrake and was stuck in gear somehow. He was in Asda car park.

He called them about 16.00 - they said a couple of hours...then said it'd be 23.00.

He said he was going home and for them to call him when they were on their way. He got home then 10 minutes later got a call saying they were with his car now. He got there and it was someone they'd subbed it to who knew fuck all except that they couldn't load it due to the problem, then he fucked off.

This was a sunday evening.

He was telling them to get a proper AA man out. It was monday afternoon when they did and the bloke fixed it in 30 minutes.

I`m pretty sure that both the AA & RAC prioritise attendance based on circumstances so for example a car with children stuck on a busy road will always get seen to faster than your mate safely away from moving traffic in a car park. Lucky he wasn`t in a Waitrose car park or it could have been even longer though.

There were a lot of reviews with similar stories.

Almost 24 hours is a stretch though.

I`ve been with the RAC for many years as a family membership with 3 members and I think in that time we have had 4 callouts, all attended within an hour .
24 hours is terrible and certainly enough to make you change provider even if you are in Waitrose with access to almond croissants and endless cups of coffee.

I've only used the AA once after a blow out on the M74 - the OEM wheel brace (Volvo) was made out of fudge and stripped it trying to get the first nut off.

Took about an hour to get to us - it was raining and had my girlfriend (at the time) her son 17 and his bird. The subbed low loader was going to drop us at the next services so I paid to take us home to Glasgow. Four of us and the driver in the cab...like a mini adventure.

I've had shit service from all of the big players - especially for motorbikes.

Now with Start Rescue. Not because I think they will be any good, , but I just went with something cheaper. A middle-aged man on his own counts for shit in the breakdown game. Breaking down in the middle of Bath counts for less than shit. I think that their attitude is: "Bath is nice, and so you are better off staying there, and get the train home" (which I have done!)!
