Just received my subscription copy and quote -

"Welcome to the Ducati 1098: the most powerful V-twin ever, the most inspirational Italian motorcycle since the 916, and the bike that markes Ducati's return to greatness."

Excusing the grammatical errors, a pretty good testimony I reckon!

Yeah.
I must have missed them being rubbish!

Oh well. Hey ho. As long as they are back to greatness. Phew.:)

More to the point........... A SUBSCRIPTION to Bike. My aren't you posh!:D

according to a lot of comments on here in another thread - everybody seemed to want to slag it....and a lot of 999 owners/would be owners.

Since when have we ever slagged Ducati's caterpillar lip :p :D

i still think the front looks to japanese and until i see it in the flesh ill continue to think that ,but, i never once said ducatis werent great:D

The front does look a little Jap, but the Jap riders will never know because all they will ever see is the rear disappearing into the distance.

I was In Ducati Leeds just befors x mas, It is very nice in the flesh, what struck me was how small the lights are, they are tiny! I never realised just from looking at the pictures.
It was very light too, in fact it felt awsome, and those calipers are imense!
Having said that they had a red sports classic in there and for some reason I was attracted to that more, if money was no object my garage would be rather large! :)

stopped at Ducati Glasgow today, the 1098 was in the front window as the shop was shut, looks great ! i like it very much.

I agree I saw the 1098s at Ducati leeds too on the Friday before Xmas and I decided to order a 1098s Tricolore. Good job i left my cheque book at home this time...........

just read the article, they gave it very good press, i spose you could mis-interpret the comments about the 749/999.

mibbee just the media i think.

Mis-reading and poor interpretation are often seen with stuff like this. After all, one can (and people do) read anything into anything. The 999 isn't called a bad bike, it's merely Ducati conceding that they have, with hindsight, become aware of it's perceived shortcomings (backed up by sales figures) in the eyes of the public. Nothing wrong with that. It's time to take stock of the situation and move forward.

The 749/999 were good bikes, they got me back into biking again, I'm more confident with twins rather than 4 cylinders. The 749 is a little easier to ride than the 998s. However Ducati will always be re-nowned for the bench marked 916/ 996/ 998 and anything Ducati have done in the past, do now or in the future will be pitched against these in particular the 916..

The downside to 749/ 999 is the 2nd values, but thats nothing new....

From a lucky person who has both my opinion is that I enjoy riding the 749s, because its the best handling, but I love the buzz + everything else about the 998s. Hope the 1098s Tricolore has the same effect...

Well Desmo, a test ride on your demo should do the trick when its registered and minus the baffles please !!

:comp2:

Well Pete thats what demo's are for, but not many of us can keep with you when your on song.

However

I'd like to think that i'll be able to take the 1098 for a ride, but somehow I think it'll be taking me instead!!!

:comp2:

:lol2:

Pete it will be a few days before it's on the road, weather etc, but I'll be straight on the blower to you, no fear. :lol2:

Hi Pete,

We went upto the Hartside 1 Sunday in oct 06 and it was as if we had rockets for engines, instead of thumping V-twin Dukes.. If I'm not mistaken your M900 kept loosing clutch fluid I think??? !!!

yes, I thought it might have been then! Couldn't hang about, too much to see :) The seals on the slave had jacked in and I was getting about five miles per bleed.......and exhaust burns on the back of my hand.....still got the scar to prove it.......so just got stuck into riding. It cost £17 the next day for a repair kit and took about ten minutes to sort. That was a good day out. Until the next time......meanwhile a test ride on the 1098 awaits :D

I think rather than offer test rides they should offer a money back guarantee that way it will stop the test pilots who have no intention of buying one. When a dealer can sell every one the have in stock they don't need a demo until the sales start to return to a normal level and a test ride is the 'closer' needed to get the sale from a competitor. Me? I would buy it , then test ride it home.
