Any Brain Cells To Spare?

I am looking again at this heap of shit TomTom Rider 550. Y'know the one that is nothing at all to do with riding bikes, unless it is a pushbike!

I have concluded that the route planning is useless shit, and so I want to use Google Maps, as this has apassing resemblence with truth and accuracy. What I want to do is create a POI file in Google maps and then import it into the TomTom.

Asking a bit much, I know, but both side claim that it is possible. First hurdle is to create that file from my route in Google Maps. That seems next to impossible, and then I will need to import it into the TomTom POS, but how?

This is the only help that I have found:

Anyone have a clue on how to do this?

The plan was to use this crap-tracker on my Ducatis, but if I can't figure it, then it just confirms what I already know. This is a waste of my time!

Use this guide to create the file and then follow the guide you posted to put it on the TomTom.
I saw that and don't trust it. Are you sure that it looks amateurish enough?

Don't worry about it. I have boxed up the P.O.S. and will take it back tomorrow!

You said you like google maps, which as far as I know doesn’t produce GPX files, so I found a work round for you. Then you could put the route you like in the TomTom and have the time of your life following your favourite route.
Twice if you include Tesco petrol station in the route so you can fill up.

Or, send the TomTom back and buy a different SatNav that won’t do what you want.

😀

I have reconsidered. :cautious:

I just got it back out of the box and connected it back to my computer. I used the TomTom Mydrive Connect spp and it did a route for me. Then I downloaded it to the TomTom and it went straight there.

So, I cannot honestly claim it is faulty. It is just a ball-ache!

I know that I can plan routes and then download them to the device. I won't have traffic unless I pay for it, but I'll tink about that and decide another time.

So, the plan still is to go shit on the Ducatis and buy a Beeline for the KTM. That will keep the shit-count more equal across all bikes

Trying to use Google Maps with the TomTom was a nice idea, but will just brings me a shit-load of grief!

The TomTom will be better in Europe and if I do decided to take the KTM to Poland then I will just have to work out a way of fitting the TomTom to the KTM, but that is a long time away! If I do Scotland and Ireland on the KTM, then I will stay with the Beeline and just take any data charges in Ireland without giving a toss.

I have to keep things in perspective. Years ago, I went all over Europe with mo phone, or GPS, but just some basic instructions taped to a tank bag. I may of got well lost, more than once, but never once cared in the slightest! That was part of the adventure!

And that is what I forget. Four and a bit years go, I came within a knat's cock of having my leg amputated! Now, I get arsey about some flipping shit GPS!
