Visually much closer to the original roundcase SS than say the Baines. Frame looks as if it has been made to replicate the original which helps the looks Not sure I am wild about the seat unit which could have been a bit tidier.
Interesting to see what they have done with the high level exhaust as I was not sure if I could do that with my project. There will be a lot of interest I am sure but like all these projects you have to buy/make it because you want one.....very seldom will you get your money back as once you get to £6k+ territory people look at what the factory has to offer for that sum.

...yes, they didn't sell many, coz the thing just didn't handle!!!

...sorry, I may be biased, but that aside, it looks out of proportion, just doesn't look right!

I agree. Not helped by insufficient & poor-quality photo's. & the spelling mistakes...... Be interested to see if it makes their reserve.

Looks more like a pastiche of the original, while the Baines is more of an evolution imo. Ed, I think your bike is definitely better without the side panels, less is more and all that.

Whats with the one high and the one low mounted exhaust? was that how the original was done?

Ed your one has both low mounted if i am not mistaken.

If you look at the original Paul Smart 72 Imola bike that was how it was done.
From memory reason being better ground clearance as the circuit was predominantly left handers.
On the original bike the the "high level" was the other way round.
Because exhaust exits on the "other side" on the back cylinder on a belt as opposed to the original bevel that may be why they have done it this way.
72 bike had a full fairing (rather than the nose fairing) which was modified slightly on the 73 bike but this could all get a bit anal!:o
Order you 72/73 replica parts here!

ProjectImola004;74970...sorry said:
Oddly enough I thought it looked better on the ebay photo than on the road test feature which does look unbalanced.
It would be interesting to see it in the flesh to compare.

I have to ask why someone would want to put a modern engine in an 'old' frame. The only mod I can see is the front engine mount (although I'm sure the rear mounts must be different also).

The frames were good in their day but have been superseeded by far with modern stuff. That is why I personally went for what I believe to be the best amalgamation of old and new. Everything about the Imola is designed for modern riding/handling and would run rings around this Italian offering in the handling stakes, I can see this just from looking at the head angle alone!!
Some call it a fake but the Imola is only a modern rendition of the old bikes, apart from the rocker-covers, there's nothing on mine that is from the bevel bikes.
Mine is the way it is purely due to my tastes and budget (at the time), you can have full fairings, high level pipes, Bol'dor seat units, alloy/gellcoat tanks, and and and. :)

I looked long and hard about doing just that. Reason being the visual similarity and I was planning a more faithful copy of the 72 bike. Thanks to Derek I got frame specs for both the modern SS (carb) and the bevel to compare. The work involved was really beyond what I was capable of and decided to ditch it on practicality grounds.
No doubt your bike is far superior handling to a bevel framed anything but.....I don't do track days and my riding skills (and lack of) don't show up the weaknesses in 30 year old bevels so handling is just not an issue. But then most people buying bevels (and lots are!) are not expecting to give a 1098 a run for their money although for most average riders they are still great fun.
Remember something vaguely about usual Italian failings with organisation and reliability of part supplies as being a key reason for it's demise. (John Fallon did mention something to me a few years ago)
I am wondering if this used a Darmah frame given the seat styling. (Frame on Darmah is "kicked up" at the back.)

I can't disagree with you there Stewart. I guess it all comes down to personal tastes. For myself, I love the bevels, simple as that. I'd like to call my effort with my ProjectImola my tribute to their heritage. :)

Tribute as in...........

The Counterfeit Stones, Nowasis and the Bootleg Beatles

...no, I'd like to think it's a bit better than that!!!

I'm not wild about that seat either and as you say below -

But have a look at the attached pic. A line up 3 Spaggiari bikes with Franco Uncini on the nearest one, all with the odd seat and high pipes on the right!

I don't know about the odd pipe configuration, check out that 'Space 1999' helmet, brilliant!!!! :p

Item closed on fleabay having run out of steam at £4.5k.
Didn't think it would make much more as most people wanting a special want to build what they want rather than buy someone else's dream.

...cost a supposed £16k to build and finished at £4.5k, I'm not surprised really.

Don't know where they get £16k from.
According to the article you could buy a ready built bike for half of that!

...mine didn't even cost quite that much and it's got much more bling on it like is it!!!! wicccckkkkkeeeeedddd!!!!!!! ;) :D
