Another crash

Hi,
Don't know if your aware but on the return from the Hizzy meet Hamish lost his S4 at a bend. Went down an embankment and hit some large rocks. After checking Hamish was okay (sore side- hit some rocks) - going to drop into the Western Infirmary when he returned home. The bike had flipped and was damaged on both sides -looks like a write off. He phoned the AA for recovery and was informed as it was recovery after an accident it would cost £104/10miles !!! Fortunately Berto's mate has a trailer and went back to Glasgow whilst Bruce and I waited for around three hours with Hamish in the good old rain under some trees trying to muster up a sing song!! Anyway the jeep and trailer arrived with some crisps and drink. The bike was then duly loaded and we all headed back in torrential rain and floods. Needlesly to say both Bruce and I were soaked through but at least we were intact. Whilst standing at the roadside Niki and her dad passed - probably thought we'd stopped for a fag or something.

Sorry to hear that Geoff how long after I spit from you guy's did it happen? A72 M74 A737 all dry untill I got off the ferry on Arran got totally P****d on!!!

It happened on the road from Peebles just before it merges with the A702 I think. It's the road that take you into Edinburgh one way and Bigger the other. The irony is the bike fell over just before we left on the Great Western Road - soft tarmac and Hamish thought it was a bad omen. We talked him into coming!!

Jinx!!

Well I've been riding continuously for twenty seven years all year round and in all weathers and it's only in the last two years riding with Ducati rideouts that I seem to spend most of my time picking bikes up. In total yesterday picked up three bikes, Hamish's was by far the worst. In fact I've been on some six rideouts in two years and in only one has someone not fallen off. At the tail end of last year we lost two riders - a guy on a 999 overcooked a bend behind me and ran into a motor on the other side. Some one hour later another guy - this time in front of me trying to keep up with Bruce overcooked a bend flying off into the field, not before hitting some roadside furniture. This year had full view of Martin spinning down the road going to the Hartside meet. At this rate I think I'll go for trauma support as I seem to have full view of them spinning around the road. Maybe my other rideouts have been more sedate as I'm generally with guys on triton's, bonnevilles, nortons and other old british iron - they might be slower on the straight but can handle beautifully on bends and all seem to get home!!
Bruce and Al have also been there - maybe there the jinx!!

Yip - always exciting. Maybe as standard should consider bringing a recovery van/x-ray machine on all runs!! How's Hamish ?

Damn guys!! thats exactly what we thought, although i did wonder when we passed bruce riding back in the oppsosite direction... Sorry we never stopped. i was on a miserable mission to get home, with my damaged shoulder completely locked up with the cold it was a struggle to get my bike home in one piece as well. Also passed two car accidents on the way home - one was rather nasty with the fire brigade cutting the girl out from her car that was wrapped aroung trees on the wrong side of the road so all in all i think it was the whole day that was jinxed!
Hope hamish is ok, pass on get well soon wishes from me and my dad
 
All this gives dseered's take on always packing a space blanket a lot of credibility! Hope everything for everybody works out OK. I have to say there might be trace of truth in all this too. In the last eighteen months (all Ducati riding) I have picked Steve748 out of a sandpit, heard of Lily crashing out on the Lakes ride and there was at least on step off on the MMMMM! Now this one.

Any thoughts? Are we jinxed? Is it the pixies?

wen u say we lost two riders, hopefully this means they fell off not that they died, sorry to hear of ur m8s latest misfortune and i hope everything works out ok.

Christ Geoff, never thought , you were both standing under a big tree, just thought you were stayin dry for a bit or puttin on yer waterproofs, or indeed havin a fag. Saw Bruce commin back the other way but surmised you had stopped and he went on a bit, saw you werent there, then just came back. I did think about stoppin myself when I saw you, but that was only to put on my own waterproofs then thought bugger it, i'll crack on a bit then put them on, hopin it might dry up. Big appologies to you both, wave your arms or somethin next time please, I'm bloody embarassed, I even waved. Glad its just the bike damaged and nobody hurt. That was a wee knagery bit as well ,couple of wee tight lefts with a right immediately after them . I remebered them from the run we had done in the afternoon ( sunny at the time) so I was just cruisin through them thinkin about maybe gettin home dry. Appologies once again for wavin and passin by, I feel really bad, need to pay more attention next time
 
Hamish if fine..clean bill of health but dirty pants!!!Pretty bad bruising on the ribs but Arai and Dainese did their jobs...I think it will be written off as frame damage/tank mashed/radiator snapped and various bits still in the burn!!!

Thanks for the reply - not much you could do as we were waiting on recovery whilst Bruce had went for munchies. We'd already dragged the bike from the ditch. If we really needed you's to stop we would have looked more in distress rather than smiling - even Hamish with his painful side.

Geoff, NEVER EVER send Bruce for munchies unless he starts to look at you funny..It was probably for the best though cos if you had went he would have eaten Hamish.....:watchout:
