looking to buy a 04 999 low mileage good condition only has the one key not the red one. Can anyone give me any advice if this would be a problem, both selling it on and purchasing it? Any other hints on what else to look for when purchasing this particular model.

Any advice will be appreciated!!! :thanks1:

Don't touch it unless you can get a very cheap deal. Without the red key you can't get replacement keys. If you loose or damage the one black key you will need a new ECU, a new lock set and a new set of clocks (the immobiliser is built into the clocks.) You may be able to get the one key cloned and the ECU thinks that both are the same key but that will depend on the security system employed.
Another option is to remove the transponder from the key and permanently attach it to the immobiliser antenna and get a couple of mechanical copies of the key made and use of them for starting the bike.

any bike sold without all 3 keys is worth less than one with the complete set. The red key is the "master" and without it you may have problems if a new ecu or clocks are needed. I wouldn't buy a bike without them all and would assume the lack of them could prevent you reselling quite as easily as havig all 3. either get a large discount or ask the seller to sort it out before you buy...

Was talking to Evelyn today and she told me that Phoenix?, not sure, had lost her red key and it had cost them £2000 to fix it i.e. new ECU etc.

Just to give you an idea of the money involved in misplacing the red key.

I was offered a 749 minus keys but cost was £1500+ to replace as the ECU and immobiliser are linked.
Found a way around it but it was still £500+ and it bypassed the immobiliser.
Resale value would still be affected.
