A80 Roadworks

if you're local to central Scotland you'll have seen the massive roadworks on-going for the motorway link up. The A80 at Cumbernauld has had a notable increase in police activity.... watch out folks it's a 40mph limit from Moodiesburn right through to the Falkirk cut off. A mixture of marked and unmarked cars. Trouble is NO ONE does 40, so it's easy to drive along 10-15 over the limit and not realise it.
 
actually NO :), been on my best behaviour.... but seen several getting busted this week. Once winter starts that road is going to be a nightmare, it's already like a sheet of ice with the mud and crap
 
Pass that way regularly.... tried setting cruise control to 40.... everything passes you.... lorries, coaches, tractors.... :banghead::flash:

Will just have to live with it
 
bang on Paul, if you do sit at 40 you risk get rear ended by some dickhead with their eyes painted on... can't win. 40 is BOLLOCKS, if they made it 50 (sensible) people would be more inclined to stick to it. Try doing 50 on the stepps by pass, that's SCARY
 
Fact is there are no barriers between the carrieagways on some long sections (not all) and there are men working between the two.. I am involved in the works and 40 is sensible but as you say people are ignoring the limit... 50 might seem more sensible but if you have an eejit doing 60, what happens if they cross carrieagways into the oncoming?? There are some sections where its like a launch ramp into the opposing traffic and its only a matter of time before there is a serious incident...
 
using it everyday and its a pain in the arse, but always think limits on roadworks like that are for the protection of the guys working on them so tend to stick to them. saying that in the evening when im finished some folk are going through there at 70 easy:eek:
 
What really annoyed me was that when there were NO roadworks in the new section, where the roundabout used to be, it was still limited to 50. Absolutely no reason for that.
 
Know what you mean, but can you imagine the problems if it changed from 60 to 40, back again and so on?

I think a bit of common sense employed helps on which section you stick to 40 and which one you dont....
 
aye, you all have valid points.
its a bad sketch for all of us who travel to glasgow each day and back at night, and that's just in the motor.
i'm not taking the duc in that direction.
It says 40 mph, so we should try our best to adhere to the recommendation.
the road is covered in mud, boulders and bits of steel.
its not for bikes, so take care..:cool:
