A waste of time and money?

Picked up this fairing off Ebay, the seller said it was made by Rickman for a Ducati but he didn't know which model; certainly doesn't fit a nineties ss. It is closer to what I'm looking for, rather than the mini Imola style fairing I've got or the oem one with the square headlight which I've never liked, but it would take a lot of effort to make it fit and to get it painted etc. Anybody think it would be worth it or would I be strapping a big, plastic dustbin to my bike? I have the screen and lights btw.

If it's what you want Iain, make it fit

Isn't it just a case of fabricating a few brackets for it?

Spotted your bike the last time I was in the DG workshop mate, well done fella! :D

anything a little outside of the normal is going to take more effort than a bolt on off the shelf item, which is what makes it worth while in my opionionin, anyone car throw the catalog at a bike

I think it looks about right for the bike, the PS rep has a fairly large fairing and it looks right. If you are used to seeing the bike in a certain way (with the other fairing) any change is going to a bit uncertain until you have completed the change with the new piece on it. The knack is to make it look like it should be there and the unwashed think it is an original bike ;) Before I make any change I think about for a while before I do anything maybe keep that fairing on the bike for a while and keep going back, have another look at it until you have decided one way or the other.

It looks like a twin headlamp version of the bevel 900SS fairing. It shouldn't be hard to make it fit, if that's what you want go for it.

Cheers for the various responses.

Agree it wouldn't be to everyone's taste, but as Scotty says it should be about more than buying stuff from the catalogue (done enough of that in my time!). As you say Steve, it would have to look 'manufactured' rather than lashed on, and I think I'd have to cut the front off the headlight bracket to make it sit properly. I'll sleep on it for a while, several months probably!

had a good look at ure bike in Ducati Glasgow last week, you have spent ALOT on it man, geeeeezo !

If you are going to do it I would look at finding someone who can make a bracket for the fairing rather than alter the existing one and if later you decide you don't like it you could always sell it as 'fitting your model' bike :)
yellow pages and internet search should bring something up. I know a guy in Harrogate who is brilliant at making special bits up, trouble is he is so good he has too much work on! I wanted the end of my chain guard extending as it was part of the hugger and to fit on to the bike it was shorter than it should have been. I had to keep upping the price before he would make it for me. ££

Looking at the position of some of the mounting holes it could fit a 900SS Bevel like mine.
Not sure why someone would want to ditch the standard one though.

got any more pictures ? side and front on , it kinda looks big compaired to the rest of the bike ~:?

I would like to see more pictures, I think that has great potential on there - from the back of the tank looking forward the line looks good down to the lights, the fairing and seat unit match up well, I like it !

Looks too big initially in the photo but that is because the white has that effect I reckon. If it is off a bevel then it can't be that big as your frame is wider etc than the bevel. Angle of photo obviously.

it don't look like a Rickman fairing to me, early Rickmans had single headlight and newer ones the sides drop lower to cover more of the cylinder head and engine. i don't even think its for a Honda or Kawasaki 750/900/1000.

if i was thinking about twin headlight classic style i'd go for a non headlight fairing and mount the lights externally bol d 'or claasic race stylee

the front needs lifting up to let the mudguard clear under braking maybe doing that will smooth the lines out ?

Looked at the bike belonging to Alan Long at Stafford which he had modified to replicate a TT2 etc with Bol D'or styling. I liked it but a few on here slated it. Matter of taste. He did get runner up prize in modified Ducati competition!

Isn't like that with headlamps so they clip em on when it starts getting dark but a bit over the top for the road IMO . How about looking at fitting smaller projecting headlamps in them great big holes one for main and the other dip?

Thanks for positive comments. All white may be a step too far! In any case the fairing has a fine 'cracqueleur'(sp?) all over it so will have to be rubbed down and re-painted anyway.I'm toying with the idea of seeing if a 748/916 etc race fairing bracket might be made to fit. I'll maybe ask if any of the Desmodue guys on DSC have done something similar.

I've only just read this thread so my reaction is a little delayed!! I personally think your mini SS fairing looks 10 times better mate. The twin headlamp jobby makes the bike look a little 'top - heavy' if you know what I mean, and I've come to this conclusion imagining it obviously coloured in silver paint.

I just thought I'd not be backward a coming forward! :)
