Evening all,

It was me who bought the mk3 250 single Steve Thackery had advertised the last couple of days. This is what I've got

As steve alluded to I've bought it as a project for a young girl I know who has started an nvq in engineering but has no experience of working on mechanical stuff, the aim is to try and build a useable bike but overall for her to learn the various skills required to work on and refurbish old equipment, and become comfortable working with hand tools.

I've built a few bikes from bits over the years mainly offroad stuff so this is something new to me with a big learning curve, below I've highlighted with numbers some of the parts laid out, could someone more knowledgeable than me either confirm that I've identified the parts correctly or identify them for me.

I've no idea what condition the engine is in as it's been open to the elements since being removed in the 70's one valve seems to have been removed and is in a jar of bits.

This is going to be a slow project, I need to finish some building work in the garage before work can start and I also need to source a shot blasting cabinet, I think I'll probably start by setting up a big electrolysis bath and using it to get rid of all the rust to see what condition things are in followed by stripping the engine down.

Wow, what an amazing project! Look forward to seeing how this all developes and, of course, the final result!

Blue 1 - Headlight with bezel & back plate
Blue 2 - Headlamp mounts
Blue 3 - cant expand the pic
Blue 4 - Front brake plate stays

Yellow 1 - Speedo Unit, Tell tale lights, Aprilia Switch Of Some Sort, Fuse Box, Brake Light Switch?
Yellow 2 - Front engine mounts
Yellow 3 - Frame end bungs?
Yellow 4 - Pic not clear enough
Green 1 - Think this is one of the engine covers but it has some sort of drive built into it Rev counter drive which covers the bevel
Green 2 - Top race of head bearings?
Green 3 - Points cover
Green 4 - looks as if they are foot rest rubbers
Green 5 - top nut for steering yoke
Green 6 - Engine Mounting bolts, No Idea about thing on the right

Blue 3 - look like collets and spring seats from the rear shocks.
The previous owner has stripped it into an awful lot of bits. Pity the engine was left partly dismantled as corrosion will have got into the internals.

In Green 3 there will also be four cylinder head bolts as I can see they have been removed.

Parts list and wiring diagram available for download here.
Be aware that the part list is in 2 sections, you will need to download both to get the complete document.

Yellow 4 may be the pillar bolts that hold the points cover in place and the rubber grommet looks to be the cover for the brake or clutch adjuster.

I really enjoyed your 916 engine conversion thread, looking forward to this one as well! Good luck and keep the posts coming:thumbs:
