'74 750SS sells for over £40 grand in the U.S

jeez some people, could have saved himsen 35k and bought a 749, faster, comfier, better handling and a damn sight better looking!

This was highlighted a few days ago. Prices are going silly in some areas of the classic bike world and the bubble will burst again as before.
Once these prices are being paid then the temptation is to turn your GT into a Sport or Sport into an SS or whatever. One of the downsides to all this is that some bikes get priced out of the reach of genuine enthusiasts, they get taken off the road and they end up being bought as a pension fund investment.

Faster: Yes
Comfier: Yes
Better Handling: Yes
Better looking: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: When the 749 fell out of the ugly tree it hit every branch on the way down........thud.

...all I can say is that were it not for this 750SS Imola (the original I mean, not mine) then the 749 wouldn't have even been born!!! :)

hahah, bet in '74 (i was 2 so educated guess ) they said the same about the 750ss :D

33 years from now 749's will be fetching relative sums, wee tip for ya!

Your welcome :D

You beat me to it Scott......theyre so ugly that they produced/sold so many.....

Now theres logic in there somewhere......:p :D

each to his own but I know which one I would rather have

Which one appeals probably goes largely hand in hand with your age. Numbers made will have a large bearing on future values. Hedge your bets and buy both!
Putting on my anorak the SS in your photo, whilst still very desirable, is actually a 750 squarecase not a 750 roundcase and much more (relatively) common and affordable.
And just to zip up said anorak, if it wasn't for the GT there wouldn't be the SS or any other twin for that matter. Dr T we salute you!

There are said to be fewer of these original 'green frame' 750ss in th US than there are here, for some reason. Maybe only a dozen or so. Here's one which sold in the US for around £14,000 though. http://www.bevelheaven.com/FS-johnz750SS.htm

There was a 'mint' original example for sale in one of the classic mags here early in the year, and the seller was asking around £15,000 (or best offer, if I remember right).

It's supply and demand, folks..!

...Funnily enough, a mate of mine's got one not more than 30 miles from here....

and my mate Geoff Baines owns and raced one ('The Flying Fossle') for years. Now stands in the entrance to their unit.
