1098R

Very unfortunate sale of my recently completed 1098R due to impending separation. I’m currently out of the country until end on Jan.

2008 Ducati 1098R, originally owned by Martin Rees of Ducati Glasgow who turned it into a track bike from new with a lot of high end aftermarket parts and track/race bodywork, more recently it was owned for a long time by a well known member of another Ducati forum. It’s a well know bike that has been ridden hard and always on track but it has had a no expense spared ownership from new. I’ve just completed a extensive restoration using lots of brand new parts from Ducati and all the original fairings/carbon/tank etc that were stored from new.

Some recent work and parts fitted:

Full engine/gearbox rebuild by Glen Searle including Pistal pistons circa £5k (have full receipt, zero miles on engine since rebuild)
Forks and shock rebuilt
New chain/sprocket
Brand new Bridgestone Battlax S22R
Fitted with Ducati Corse power kit including exhaust cams/trumpets/ecu (originals included)
Wilf at MotoRapido remap.
Full 70mm Termi system

My aim was to restore it to as per factory build spec and as far as I can remember the only non standard part is the JHP clutch cover with every new bit of carbon I bought being original Ducati Performance.

The original clutch cover is included as is the full original exhaust system, including the boxed & wrapped, never used Akrapovic titanium cans, there are also load of spare parts, brand new bolts/fixings and 2 other ECU’s.

The bike has covered 9900 miles however post it’s restoration it is all new or rebuilt, it’s road registered and I have a V5 in my name however it has never been MOT’d! (Would easily pass and will put 12 months on it).

As you can see from the thread I am pretty obsessive and have tried to make it as good as it can be, it is an exceedingly clean bike and all the fairings/tank etc have no stone chips and are pretty much immaculate.

Having looked around at what else is around and bearing in mind the condition, engine rebuild and spares/exhaust etc I am asking £19,000

Unfortunately it's the way with eBay. :(

I've bought loads of stuff from there and never messed anybody about, even when I had a little buyer's remorse and wasn't sure if I did the right thing. I always followed through on the deal, nobody forced me to click on the "bid" button.

When I'm selling I get messed about like crazy on auctions. When I sold my collection of Arai's last year, the 1st 2 helmets sold but didn't get paid for. I spent ages chasing people only to be ignored and in one case told to "F**k off". :mad: I had to claim fees back and relist items, it all takes time and effort.

From that point forward, I put them on 'Buy it now' auctions with a price I was happy with. I then ticked the 'Instant payment required' on the listing. That way, nobody can buy an item without paying for it, so they can't mess you around. I sold around 12 helmets in 3 weeks this way with zero hassle.

I can't believe you are trying to kick the arse out of something that was ok once when it was new, but is now old and been well surpassed by technology.....

Don't sugar coat your message it makes it difficult to see what you really mean.... So you like the watch and the bike is super cool?

Snap. Including bikes and large purchases. It’s no different to shaking hands imho.
 
I must admit seeing the price it sold for on eBay and seeing what it had been advertised for I wondered if the seller pulled the plug... but in fairness to him I’ve also see recently his post open to offers at similar to what it sold on eBay...

eBay don't want to know. They just refund fees etc. Good luck in getting details from them, saying you want to go to court. I've heard it's a legal contract, but have never heard of anybody persuing that route. I'd love to see it happening to deter the timewasters and spoilers, don't get me wrong. I've been on the wrong side of this too many times.

Yet another side effect of internet anonymity.
 
There are also distance selling rules on everything. So buyer can turn up, change mind, walk away or even take it and change mind and get money back under these laws. To some extent anyway. And as it’s England, and not Scotland, small claims to recover the costs if buyer refuses to abide is simple, cheap and covers up to 10k. (May be more) And access to full legal system simpler for larger amounts. Scotland however, difficult box, only 5k and if you come from England good luck!

or my other interesting theory looking at the amount of bidding and timing history by the winner is he was a shill bidder....... :unsure: ;)

there are ten. bids by him alternating between other bidders... you could form the opinion he really wanted the bike...yet within two days after the end he pulls out???

I know plenty of dreamer Guinnesss like that one of my mates is a time waster it's got to the stage in one shop in Dublin I was asked discreetly to tell and I quote "tell that fat useless fucker he's not welcome here" orders gear in then doesn't bother following through with the transaction its like it's a disease! Bullshit syndrome?

And for the record I haven't bid on it either... I'd have made an offer away from Ebay, saving the seller eBay fees.

EDIT.
Following an educational post by Elsie I've corrected this post.
I did think the fees would be £1665, but apparently there is a cap on fees of £35 for auctions of motorcycles.
