1098 potential problems

I’ve discovered a cure for the anti-fasteners suffers. :D :D

Couldn’t resist
I’ll get my coat.

Now that looks fecking fantastic - I like white wheels :)

Ducati wouldn't compromise such a landmark bike by not sorting out these issues, as Martin says, it's no big deal. So what new model of bike, car, etc. doesn't have teething troubles, snagging, recalls and so on - not very many. Any that do are generally sorted quickly. Have some confidence in the brand, it's what we're all here for, isn't it?

The fasteners are there for a reason...to hide that plumber's workshop ;) :p

im sure derek will be along soon to tell you how many fasteners there are on the st range and trust me theres hunners, its a days work just to get to the battery i kid you not.
Now that you've baited me I'm just going to have to answer that :p

Let's see now - First you have to take out the 3 tiny M3 screws holding the dash surround panel. Then there's 2 M6 bolts on each mirror. Then there 3 M4 screws each side at the top and bottom fairing join. Once you've removed all that lot you can slide the top fairing off.
Now another 2 M4 screws are revealed at each side plus there are another 2 fastening the chin piece to the fairing lowers. One M6 at each side of the fairing mid panels and 4 M6 underneath joining the belly pan sections together. Once all that lot are off you can remove the fairing lowers, albeit with the mid-sections and belly pan sides still joined. These are held together with another 4 M4 screws for each side.
So what's that altogether then?
I make it 3 x M3screws, 4 x M6 bolts, 6 x M6 screws and 16 x M4 screws altogether no wonder ST servicing costs are high.
As soon as the stainless Dzus fastners arrive from Tasty Nuts I'll be changing the upper/lower fairing join screws to Dzus as well as those under the belly pan halfs. With a few mods to the fairing panels I should then be able to whip the complete lower fairing halfs in about a minute without having to take the top fairing off first. I'll keep you posted Gordon because I know you are keen on this mod.

I've just noticed that I've become a Track Day Virgin now - ooer!
Maybe it should be Track Day Anorak !! :D

i like nialls point, take a few fastners off then have a beer, then set about some more, then have another sip, take your time & enjoy it !

for all those people who hate ducati's because of costs, dont buy 1 if you cant afford it ffs. . . . . . . simple as that, go buy some Generic Rice Burner with as much personality as a microwave.

what do you expect anyways, it Italians were talking about here.

I can always rely on you Ian to say what I'm thinking......but political correctness prevents me. ;)

On the subject of Plastic Pulley wheels; the material is the correct one. The factory are well aware of the situation and have a solution.

Cheers

I agree, but there is a danger that you might not be able to finish the job and have to take her to someone like Martin !

I am at a loss to understand why the mags compare jap bikes with Ducati models, Ok compare like with like jap bikes but I wouldn't buy a bike because a mag says it's 5% etc better than a Ducati. If they compared a Hardly Dangerous with it jap cruiser I can't see and HD rider changing even if the other bike was twice as good and the same applies IMHO to the bikes we buy and love  :)

Sure maybe putting that batch of cheap skate board wheels in was a bad idea and next you'll tell us they have a fix for the Multistrada fuel gauge ( other than buying an 1100)

oops, forgot about your thread on mts net, just added a bit of info which may be useful.

Don't worry Mike. This is one bone I'm not letting go of. I have been in direct contact with Ducati UK. They have until the end of the week to come back with something constructive or I'm going to escalate it. Hell I might even stoop to talking to MCN

Ducati needs all the good press they can at the moment.............
What surprises me is that our American friends haven't sued the ass of them yet with their Lemon laws. As this has been a known problem since the bike was launched.

Ps I wait with baited breath for:

Interesting to see if the imminent arrival of 1098 killed 999 sales enough to send them back into the red.

I want to see Ducati succeed but this Ostrich head in the sand business is really p1ss1ng me off!
