To bolt a tax disc on a 1098

Hi All

Its just a question please about has anyone found a neat and tidy place to tuck away a carbon tax disc holder?

I have had a idea for 1 place which is at the back behind the numberplate. Secondly someone has mentioned attaching it to 1 of the heel plates?

Just wondered if anyone has found another alternative?

Thanks

Finding somewhere to bolt a tax disc holder onto most modern bikes seems to present a problem. On my ST4s I fixed the tax disc holder bracket between the LH footrest hanger and the frame using one of the hanger bolts. The 1098 looks like it would be a candidate for that too.

Jacket pocket
Alas, it is an offence not to display a current tax disc. :(
Even if you have purchased a current disc and can produce it on demand you can still be done for not displaying it and every traffic warden jobsworth is likely to ticket your bike if he/she can't find a tax disc on it. :(
These days with on-line taxing and so on, the tax status of practically every vehicle should be instantly available to them that need to know but they still want to harrass you for not displaying the tax disc for fear of it getting nicked.

Only a big problem not displaying if you intend to leave the bike unattended really. Mine won't ever get in that position gladly. Pocket seems good even for plod when stopped - they seem to understand. Otherwise put it inside the screen as normal.

I'll takes me chances ;) Hmmm...why do I feel I'm setting myself up for a fall here :D

Hey I don't know why I'm worrying, I don't even have a bloody bike :comp2: Can they do you for having a tax disk but no bike to display it on? :p

No, but they can do you for having a bike that's off the road and not taxed if you forget to SORN it.

just go done for that, sorned my Yamaha 3 months afetr the tax ran out)it was parked up in the back yard), got a letter of acknowledgement from DVLA, 6 months later (3 months after selling it) i got a letter from a debt recovery company telling me i owed them £80 and had 1 week to pay it! no warning nothing from DVLA, took it up with DVLA, they said tuff, pay it :comp2:

oh and i keep my tax disk in my wallet, just dont like the look of holders and the risk of them being nicked...

I agree with Niall, the Imola doesn't have a tax disc on it, it is in my jacket pocket. At the end of the day, if they put your number plate into the confuser, they gonna know whether its taxed or bl*ody not so why bother displaying it? Hey, I've got a black and silver numberplate to boot. - then again; I've always bucked the system!!! :p

love your new avatar by the way Derek, looks a tad from the old times ... :)

I tried for over an hour to find somewhere neat to fit my carbon holder, could not find anywhere so I stuck it on the inside of the fairing above the headlamps using a clear sticky plastic holder. Cannot really see it and is legal.

No idea where, but how cool is that bike  Any regrets not having her anymore?

...Derek, it looks like the village green where you live (or lived) :p

I thought it was the village green.... hahaha

Houses look "East coast" for some reason. Looks a bit like Fortrose or similar but will probably actually be Oban!

It's at the hardest, stoniest campsite in Scotland - Ullapool!

And yes Niall, I have regrets about not having the bike anymore but if I still had it I probably wouldn't have the bike I have now. Over the years we have lots bikes which subsequently we may wish we still had, but for most of us parting with a bike is out of necessity, usually to buy a newer better(?) one. If I still had all the bikes I'd ever had I'd be worth a mint now :D
Sorry I've led this thread a bit :OT::D

Now I look at it Derek, I can see what is now the Ceilidh Place in the background!!! wow!

i have an 848 and got stopped and checked going to Scarborough, my Tax disc was mounted on next to number plate.
i wasnt booked for it, but the Officer told me off and said that on a motorbike the '' tax disc on a motorcycle has to be mounted on the nearside and forward of the riders feet ''.
i didnt feel it was a good idea to ask, 'where the hell do you put a tax disc on this' .
any ideas and thats what the law told me.

This is a piece of law that is now badly outdated.
Police don't need to see tax discs, insurance certificate or MOT's as they know within seconds of running a check so why a tax disc still needs to be displayed is just daft.
DVLA compare records constantly with the MID (motor insurance database) so any vehicle insured but not taxed is flagged up anyway automatically whether vehicle is used on the road or not. (unless "Sorned)

Absolutely! But it gives them something to harrass you about and parking wardens will you ticket you for not displaying it. The fine is effectively yet another tax

I agree partially - but if it all revolves around the number plate, then all you need to do is clone a plate to "hide" a stolen vehicle. Parking wardens check the tax matches the reg (as well as the tax being in date obviously).

Well, these parking attendants/wardens whatever shouldn't be checking the tax matches the reg, blah de blah.

they should be in the bakers getting a couple of sausage rolls.. :)
