Probably a good idea to give companies money if they use that money to open or expand businesses, employing more people etc. Especially in manufacturing that can lead to exports improving the countries import) export balance.Possibly a good idea also to help keep companies running if the cost of doing so is less than the cost of not doing so and not just in pure financial terms. The devil makes work for idle hands etc.
Obviously not every situation is equal and help isn't always appropriate.
I'm all for helping ordinary people too, especially taxpayers. Start by reducing tax but i don't see that happening any time soon.
