This Honda V8 800cc Café Racer is a legendary, one-of-a-kind engineering masterpiece completely handcrafted by the brilliant Dutch builder Tjitze Tjoelker.
Requiring approximately 2,500 hours of meticulous fabrication, the bike’s history began with Tjoelker’s radical vision to build a true multi-cylinder monster from scratch rather than simply modifying an existing frame. At its heart sits a unique, custom-engineered 800cc V8 engine, which Tjoelker incredibly constructed by fusing two Honda 400cc inline-four engine blocks into a single, transversely mounted powerplant.
To handle the massive power delivery, the motor produces an estimated 120 horsepower at 10,000 rpm and is paired with a heavy-duty Moto Guzzi transmission.
Visually, the motorcycle celebrates the classic 1960s café racer era with its striking bright red fuel tank sporting the traditional Honda wing logo, custom gold-finished valve covers, a minimalist rear solo hump seat, a matte-black eight-into-two exhaust system, and multi-spoke gold wheels. This machine remains widely celebrated across the global custom bike community as a monumental feat of pure engineering passion.
V8 Fusion Building a custom 800cc V8 engine from standard motorcycle parts required intense machining and structural ingenuity.
Tjitze Tjoelker hand-cut the aluminum lower crankcase shells from two Honda 400cc inline-four engines. He painstakingly aligned them at a precise 90-degree V-angle, building a custom jig to lock them in place before permanently TIG welding the structures together into a shared, heavy-duty crankcase assembly.
The biggest hurdle in fusing two inline-fours into a functional V8 is the crankshaft layout. Tjoelker had to engineer a custom, multi-journal synchronized crankshaft that allowed connecting rods from opposing banks to share rod journals without hitting each other, ensuring the correct firing order and proper primary balance.
To keep the bike somewhat narrow, the V8 engine is mounted transversely. The power is routed out via a custom flywheel assembly to a longitudinal Moto Guzzi transmission and shaft-drive setup, which handles the engine’s 120 horsepower output.
The engine uses a custom chain-driven overhead camshaft layout, carefully timed so that the valve trains of both four-cylinder heads act as a single unit. It relies on a multi-carburetor intake manifold and an eight-into-two exhaust setup to feed and exhaust all eight cylinders evenly.
