Paint bubbling on plastic tank.

My 2004 Monster 1000Sie has been under a bike cover in a dry shed for at least six months. As I have just re-listed it on Autotrader, I thought I had better make sure it started OK. It has been on an Oxford Oximiser and has had Fuel Fit in the tank. It started and ran perfectly I was relieved to find.

BUT: horrible things had been going on under that cover, the worst of which was bubbling on the tank. There was also corrosion on the brake and clutch levers, a minor issue, and on the footrest hangers as usual. The buyer will have a lot of work to do to return it to good cosmetic condition, although mechanically it is excellent, having only 15,700 miles and a recent (Feb 2025) major desmo service including belts, shims, a fork overhaul and a new battery, which cost me nearly £1,300.

It is on Autotrader at £3K if anyone wants a project.

Is it possible to remediate this paint bubbling without doing a respray? I was thinking possibly a hair dryer or heat gun? Or is that just wishful thinking?

Second hand tanks are in the hundreds and that's hopefull that you get an unaffected one. Whilst there maybe a handful of reasons why, you are after a fix.

Me personally and with no experience of this, I would imagine you have two reasonable options. Do nothing, declare it in the advert and take your chances or, get one of those dentmasters/chip's away type of small repairers to prep, paint and blend.

Perhaps others might be able to assist with other options ?

Thanks Noobie, I have edited the Autotrader advert to declare the paint issue, and am prepared to reduce the price to allow for it as I can't really be bothered to repair it or replace the tank. The rest of the bike is already pretty "cosmetically challenged" with corroded levers and footrest hangers and general grime and corrosion. Just hoping someone will relish the challenge of saving it! Bearing in mind it is 22 years old....and I paid £4K for it in 2018.
