I've owned nothing else since 2006 never had a single issue that's both range rovers and discos.. couple of cracked air intakes prop shaft bearings and they eat brake discs for fun .. never had a single engine issue that required they engine coming apart ..I use a specialised who does shit before it happens. He's not cheap but you get a video on day you drop it and you decide what you want to do .. I definitely won't be buying any new motors as I have zero interest in any of the new shit and the fact I have no vehicle payments means I holiday every 5 weeks.. im gone again this Friday as long as the Spanish air traffic control don't screw me .. this is far more important than any new reg plate now at this stage of life .. I lost hundreds of thousands on cars through my twentys and thirties but now I couldn't be arsed i will just keep fixing triggers broom preventively 🤔

I have got a very old BMW, had it for 8 years , best car I have ever had, will drive it until it falls apart, so nice to drive and ownership is dirt cheap, all those people paying out on huge pcp deals just make me laugh, it’s insane, much better ways to spend your money🤷🏻‍♂️

Yep - when it comes to cars we only change if were pushed into it (the first one got written off).....weve had 3 cars in the last 20 years and 2 of those weve got now.... (toyota IQ and an SMAX Titanium Xsport - which i had to get mapped...tears through front tyres!) - replaced the clutch on the IQ a couple of years back - local garage wanted a grand...did it for the cost of the clutch (12 hour job - but i was following a youtube video) - apart from that its been bang on.....we'll just carry on using them until they drop...

The dealer I bought my FL2 from won't take any 2.0 LR model in px. He won't have them in the showroom. He said he can shift clean 2.2 L FL2s all day long. There's a lot of them where I live. 4x4s are popular as we can get shit winters and as a "real" 4x4 with genuine off-road ability (as opposed to a caravaner's car) the FL2s are a cost effective choice against expensive to buy and run Landcruisers or Shoguns. I find mine very nice to drive as well. I assumed the TD4 engine was the Ford engine from the 2.2L Ford Ranger but apparently it isn't. It has some Ford bits but it's mostly Peugeot. I had a 2019 2.2 Ranger and the FL2 is much nicer. It's smoother with noticeably more torque. If I could have found a nice one I'd have been tempted to buy a 200bhp SD4. They're really nice cars. But the 2.2 TD4 is cheaper to run. Mine returns a steady 34 mpg, which for a 4x4 in permanent 4wd running all terrain tyres isn't at all bad. I wouldn't get that from a Landcruiser or a Shogun. And it was made in Halewood, Liverpool, not the Solihull plant where they make the new ones.

With modern Landrovers you're just buying a name. Nothing they're selling now shares any mechanical dna with "proper" Landrovers and they don't make a single off-road capable car any more. They're just trading on a semi-prestige badge to produce expensive, complex and catastrophically unreliable town cars.

The new shape Defenders are ridiculously expensive to buy. As far as I'm aware, to replace the engine you have to pretty much strip the car down to a rolling chassis, hence the obscene cost. The complex 8 speed automatic gearboxes are troublesome as well as the engine. Possible the 35K cost for a new engine includes the gearbox. I don't know.
I'm amazed how many people keep buying the things.

There are loads of the new defenders around here. When I bought my Audi the salesman said he could sell defenders all day long if he could get them as there was a waiting list from new at the time.

Rather them than me. I can't see the pointy of them. They're useless off-road as they have massive road wheel rims and no ground clearance. If I was buying a "prestige" SUV just to drive on the tarmac I'd have a Merc ML.

The Defenders are just absurd IMO. You may have seen some with panniers or as LR say" side mounted luggage carriers". A bargain at just over £800 . Each ! Imagine buying a car that big and then buying a pannier to carry your packed lunch in .

Plenty of wealthy people in NZ buy Land rovers and range rovers. They lose value and desirability very quickly which in a bizarre way can make them a half reasonable buy…we are a country of utes tho, I guess cos we are relatively rural…. The really old school v8 RR's are now a collectable car tho…partly as they were actually a pretty good car esp for their day

My brother has run Range Rovers from the late 80s - often two at a time - and never had any major issue with any of them. He has a current model RR 3 litre which he says is great - his previous 3 or 4 were 5 litre supercharged.

His Mrs has a Defender 90 which she loves (previously she ran an Audi SQ7 which they still have for running about).

They do plenty of (motorway) miles up and down nearly every week to Surrey and Essex from south Cumbria.
 
Might have saved some lads nearly new KTM125R getting thieved by a few theiving scumbags....but there was a bit of a big brother moment....

I was walking across Queen square in Bristol...saw them, caught one of them looking at me...stared back carried on walking called the filth....had a senior moment [forgot which square i was on] - so at this point on the phone for about 5 seconds....he said ' i got you...Queens Square...' anyway, they walked off....

They may as well fucking advertise theyre bike thieves....

I bought my very first bike from them in 1973, a Honda SL125 !! :ROFLMAO:

They were a solus Honda dealer for many, many years, but recently move over to Yamaha. They might even be a Suzuki dealer too now in one of the shops a few doors down.
