after several breakins at my house a copper suggested i put carpet grip strip on the top or just under the lip of my 6ft perimiter fence. She said as anyone can get it from b&q or whereever there is no problem using it in such a way, ive notice alot of my neibhours have done this, my cats wouldntnt be too pleased tho!
Personally im not a fan of alarms, just something to go wrong, usually at the most inconvienient time.
They're all @@@@e - only reason to have them is because the insurance asks for them. Lock the thing to mother earth with as many very heavy very steel things as you can fit. If it's time consuming, noisy and inconvenient to fit them for you, just think how hard it will be for the scroats to remove......I have as many as six on each bike. Plus hard wired alarms.
Chains are fine for home use, but I have to leave my bikes in public parking spaces, for lengthy periods of time every day. Whether or not an alarm/immobiliser would actually do any good I'm not sure, fortunately its never been put to the test yet...but I like knowing its going to at least make some sort of noise if someone tries.

Niall,
I've had a few Meta alarms on bikes over the years, would do so again - they come with a little kit that lets you integrate the fob and key together
That way there's nothing dangling about to scratch your bike, great idea I think.
I had the key conversion, you have to break the Ducati key up and then put the metal bit in the fob and then plenty of araldite to keep it in place as the vibes shake it all loose![]()

And what happens to the transponder in the Ducati key that talks to the Ducati immobiliser?
