The cost of doing this Lancia must be well above what it will be worth when done. I know this car has an emotional element to it for him, so maybe thats the reason.

I wonder if his YT channel covers the rebuild costs?

No resto is worth is financially, Wheeler Dealers and such TV junk are totally off the mark when they say they buy cheap, do a bit of resto and make a profit, cut and shut death traps spring to mind - and they never include the cost of the labour just 'x' hours, which at their rates would be many thousands

It’s like us on here we rarely broadcast failure … ok I guess I do but I got no choice as I rarely get anything right

Some are, when the end result is worth 6 figures or more.

Not that they end up on Wheeler Dealers.

There was a series with Ant Anstead where he resored cars that a guy from 'Life on Mars' bought - then they sold them at auction...he did a proper job.

A couple of his restorations made world record prices in the auction (an early Aston DBS, and I think an early Mini or a Delorean).

Indeed, but cost of purchase (let alone finding such a vehicle) would still be eye watering for most. And then the cost of actual parts for the resto to keep it original enough to get a proper price (excluding the labour if you do it yourself) I don't believe people can easily flip a car for a decent profit. Most sellers of restored cars and bikes when asked the cost say 'you don't want to know mate - it owes me a lot more than I'm selling for'

Buying and keeping for a long time will see prices rise but you need to factor in inflation or it's a pretend profit.

As an example, I bought my RS2000 in 1990 for £2100 - it was a bit of a shed but had an MOT, had I done nothing to it - it would now be worth zero ....

I wanted to bring it back to standard looking with some nice bits underneath, factor in the cost of bodywork restoration and you're looking at £8000 on 2000. Inflation to now would say £2100 in 1990 is now £4250 and £8000 in 2000 is now £12000 (this excludes lots of bits on top i.e. upholstery, wheels, external trim, etc. so we're talking £16,250 cost with inflation as absolute minimum. silly prices might get £20000 which sounds like a tidy profit but could you buy another with the profit to do it again? You'd have to bet on another future classic and wait 20 or 30 years for similar.

Game for big budgets not us plebs who can only get 'barn find' Mini Metros (and a City model not 6R4 😁 )

I used to have an E36 M3 back in the day and loved it. But some time later my sister and her husband had an E46 M3 CSL and it was in another league altogether. They also had a Ferrari F430 and I drove that then straight after, drove the CSL. The BMW was by far the better drive (it did have uprated brakes which made a difference). He made me drive them in that order because he knew what my reaction would be.
For covering miles on UK A and B roads, it was the best car I've driven.
This one is an ugly mofo though.
