Details of £400 energy payment to households revealed
View attachment 55240
The government has announced how all households in England, Scotland and Wales will receive £400 to help with rising fuel bills this autumn.
The money, part of the Energy Bill Support Scheme, will be paid in six instalments.
Households will see a discount of £66 applied to their energy bills in October and November, and £67 a month from December to March 2023.
But how the money is received will depend on how you pay your bill.

Sorry. Off topic now.
Grrr. Foreign owned energy companies. Grrr.
It's the market innit![]()
BP reports second-quarter profit of £6.9bn - highest in 14 years
The profit comes as households face a rapidly-worsening cost-of-living crisis, with rising oil and gas prices being a major factor.news.sky.com
How are all these companies huge rise in profits justified.
The ‘price cap’ (fucking joke) keeps going up because of the rising cost of energy yet it doesn’t affect profits.
The energy price cap is designed to limit profiteering from energy (electricity) generators, BP is not one of them. If the market value of natural gas goes up then producers of that commodity will make more profit - and vice versa if it goes down. They sell it to electricity generators, amongst others, who then burn it to make electricity (along with other means of making electricity) so to make profit they bump up the prices or go bust.![]()

The outrage should be about the green levies we have paid to fund the building of renewable energy which should not be party to the market price of gas, write to your MP Al![]()
Who BP? Probably not but take into consideration the cyclical nature of the Oil & Gas industry and you can see many years of huge losses (and resulting zero tax bills).Looking at all the profits being declared I don’t think there’s much danger of them going bust.

Electricity suppliers? The ones who actually produce the electricity won't go bust as they will be protected by the French and German governmentsthe others will only survive if they are Tory party donors......
Who?Overall I’d say they’ve done ok.
The oil and gas industry and energy suppliers in general.Who?
They aren't the same Al, totally different industries. The oil and gas industry and energy suppliers in general.
They aren't the same Al, totally different industries.
Consider 1992, BP share price tanked and Amoco considered buying them, 1998 BP bought (merged with) Amoco, they are no different to other industries except the stakes are higher with boom and bust so the bigger the company (volume of profit) shields them in the bad times and the profits go to either re-investment or shareholders. The oil companies aren't as big as Standard Oil was so no-one is shouting monopoly.
The electricity generators produce a product from feedstock and add a margin, if the feedstock price increases the overall price rises.
Considering only the biggest companies still exist you could argue overall the others did 'not OK'
If you want a part of the pie you have to go in personally by either investing your money in shares of big companies or starting your own business to take advantage of tax incentives.
Whilst you are living with PAYE you hand over half, or more, of your life earnings to the gubmint with no control over what that is spent on - you are not a free man, banks and governments are not your friend, they are your parasite.
That is arguably the fault of the government selling off the countries natural resources to the highest bidder.I’m not saying they are the same.
I don’t want a part of the pie, I want to be able to afford to heat my house in the winter and cook food.![]()

British Gas used to pay 12p/therm to producers for contracted gas, since nobody is on contracted gas anymore the current gas price is more like £5/therm which is unheard of as 50p/therm used to be big money![]()
It's to prevent any more poorly regulated energy providers that entered the market for a quick profit from failing and costing all consumers loads of money bailing them out and also the cost of transferring the failed customers, who conveniently lost any pre existing fixed price deal with said transferl, to new suppliers at the new price cap.'Very challenging winter ahead' Ofgem says as it confirms quarterly update of energy price cap'Very challenging winter ahead' Ofgem says as it confirms quarterly update of energy price cap
So they’re going raise the ‘price cap’ (bullshit) every 3 months instead of 6, how the fuck is that helping consumers ?

I can't recall who was responsible for regulating those energy companies that failed, but time you got with the programme, Alan.........![]()
