Reality of European tour in October?

Hi all,

if you have a moment, would be interested in your thoughts and plans for a European trip later this year.....

Current thinking is 1st week Oct (allow covid cases to reduce / greater chance of trip going ahead) for trip to Southern Europe ideally for weather and twisty roads and poss ferry down.

Or Scotland as a fall back plan. Not that it’s not great location, but one of the lads is from there and he’s keen on Europe.

Are you waiting for 17th May announcement before making your plans?

Do you have a trip planned or working on one?

Have you shelved it for this year?

Where would you go or avoid in October?

Have you had any problems booking ferries or with insurance?

No flights until about November yet from 3 airlines I checked last night: Jet 2, Wizz Air and Ryanair - but wifey is on to it and has found Easyjet flights in to the UK 👀
Everything is still well dodgy to be booking yet I think :unsure:

I was off to Scotland at the end of April but had to cancel due to the current situation.
It’s the second time I’ve postponed the trip and I’m not bothering to plan anything else for the time being.

The sensible part of me 100% agrees with you @Exige

Plans are for us all to hold a week and see what happens after the gov announcement but the excited kid in me that’s been locked down too long just wants to press the trigger to have something to look forward to.

Got a mail from a travel insurance company yesterday talking about how flexible travel companies are re moving dates and their covid cover made me think that @Char ’s approach might be ‘the new normal’ and the inflexibility of days gone by have gone out the window.
 
I’ve a trip to Montenegro planned for end Sept/early Oct but realistically I can’t see it happening this year 🙁. Although I will if I can. However I reckon we’ll be staycationing again this year if we do anything at all. Meanwhile I’ll be travelling the length & breadth of Ireland.

There seems to be some uncertianty within these isles as to foreign travel but more because no ones sure what the country you are travelling too is doing. .Were it me, I'd try and change that October date and then use the summer for U.K. tours. In all Honesty, europes in a right old pickle and until they get ontop of vaccinations to a point that they are comfortable with accepting tourism traffic again, I can't see europe being a stable place to travel too, particularly this summer/year

I'm in the pseudo Highlands, kind of not Highland or lowland but more fortress Pictland, McBeth country - funnily enough dry with no midges and loads of quiet roads - bit like west cork really, except a tad cooler 🤣 always welcome dude
