It's a stock red monster 696. Only about 5500 miles. I've not had much luck with this one, back in September someone broke the steering lock ... grrr!

I was looking at the video, and it looks as if there may have been another bike already in the back of the van. Feckers!

Thanks, will add this to the FB post and hopefully get it shared nationally (UK) and found.
Keep an eye on gumtree for it....had a mates brother recover their own bike from gumtree a few years ago after the police drew a blank.

Thanks Robbie, that's a great idea.

A good question from one of our DOCGB buddies...

"Anything distinguishing on it just in case it turns up down south with different plates?"

Defo a Transit and has a few things about it that are non-standard keep eyes peeled for this van

That's cool, got more info of the theft if anyone is interested. It looks like two vehicles are involved, a hatchback in this picture, - conjecture, both vehicles drive through the feild of view, the driver of the car appears to signal to the van, that this is the target bike. The van and car drive off down the road, the van comes back a few moments later, steal the bike, drives off. Another few moments later a similar car drives back along the road in the opposite direction.

Broken steering lock, caused during another attempted theft - no camera that time - Both rear indicators 'secured' by duct tape. But by the look of the way they manhandled it into the back of the transit, those are probably right off by now. Plastic around the fuel filler starting to fade due to being out in all weathers, Oh and a while back it fell over and bent the brake pedal, got it costed but it still worked ok, so never bothered to replace it.

Details have been shared with some members of other clubs (Ducati & other motorbike clubs) so hopefully it spreads.
Oh and Kerrie (Ducati Glasgow) has also passed on the details to Ducati UK.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the good advice and commiserations. But sad to say the police have found the bike, burnt out on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

So, needless to say I'm gutted. The whole thing seems to be utterly pointless. I want to throttle someone.

I've applied to join the group, guess I'm in the market for a new bike :(

It'd be good to know roughly what time that was? Police called me at around 22:35

I was thinking I could do a little sleuthing myself, does anyone know if the traffic camera data is available historically. I'd really like to track that van, yesterday morning.

I'm pretty sure I can see another bike in the back of that van ...

I’m around Edinburgh all the time, I’ll keep an eye out for that van.

The only silver lining is that it’s possible spreading the word so quickly and widely the bike became too hot to sell or break so they had to dump it, meaning all their efforts at 3.00am were a waste of time and they made nothing from it.

Hope your insurance sorts you out with a replacement and gets you back on the road soon.

Thanks PhilLew,

It's a bit weird, but I'm really conflicted about that whole thing. That was a great bike, I'd prefer it was broken up and sold for spares - I know that sounds f*k3d up! It just seems such a waste.

It had one of those Oxford Screamer Alarm Disc Locks, which isn't very loud. But it does go off at intervals until you unlock it with the key. It's not very easy to get off without the key, or damage to the disc, and it makes the bike too much trouble to move.

For ages I've been thinking of bolting an eyelet into the kerb where I keep it,

but didn't because the council would probably throw a fit.

I would suggest it got burnt due to word getting about as well as a picture. That would have made it too hot to handle. As above, somebody you know knows something about who is behind the theft.

Looking back at it.he's said its probably burning. just a wee fanny. There were some really unhelpful comments from others too.

.

I think the only chance of getting a bike back is to have a tracker fitted but they can be disabled as well if they want.

sorry to hear that mate hope the insurance get off there back side an sort you out all the best for the rest of the year
