Bikers Fuel protest Sat 28th June, Edinburgh

I can't make it - can't afford the fuel to get there!!!!!! :eek: :rolleyes: :p

Much like the recent trucker protest...drove 120miles, came back to beginning then said "That showed 'em....now lets fill up again!"

but what is the best way to protest? Online petition? Give up driving for day? Give up smoking completely (couple of billion in taxes a month)?

what a pathetic attitude you lot have got. vocal complaint is the only things mps notice , their more terrified of loosing the voters than they are of any online petition .
what would have happened if the guys from jarrow hadnt marched, what would have happened if we just all sat back when that little short ass napoleon, went on the rampage.
If we'd just gave in when the japanese took over europe or when the germans attacked pearl harbour. If we'd Just gave up when america planted those nuclear missiles on cuba where would we be know. and you snivelling wretches feel its good to mock davie when he makes a noble if futile stance against the oppressors of the people the new tory party!!!!

I agree, this and more protests need as much publicity as poss, however the protest takes place, in lorries, on bikes etc. I would attend a local protest and get local papers involved. We all want 'something' to happen about it, try a few protests and see.

Or we could encourage as many non-bikers / non-motorists to take up smoking and then maybe they could afford to lower the fuel tax :D
 
I took part in a lot of protests in the 70s as a student and was carted off the pitch at Murrayfield in Edinburgh by the police during a protest against aparteid.

I recognise the irony of using fuel to protest against fuel costs but would encourage those more local to Edinburgh to participate.:)

I know Gordon's comments were 'tongue in cheek' but he does make some valid points about standing up against oppression.:(
 
raise fuel prices 10 times or even more.

we need shock tactics to ween the population off oil. keeps the neds off the road also, so only those willing, appreciative and able to afford mega expensive fuel will enjoy and use it.

if it cost u a 150 quid to fill ur bike tank or 800 quid to fill ur car, u might think twice instead of blindly sleep walking into a global environmental disaster.

...there's also those out there, and there many of them (us) who have fuel cards via the company they work for. They just go to the pumps fill up hand the card over and don't give it a second thought. I think it may well get to the point where alot of people 'retire' their pride and joy and just leave it on their drive and stare at it.
As for people who use their vehicles for 'normal' transportation, we are over a barrel really, we need to get from A to B, the powers that be know this and know that it's either fill the car with expensive fuel or loose your job, go hungry etc!!!
I feel just doing nothing, or moaning from the couch is also not the answer. :(

I don't think there is anyone to protest against?

The Duty we pay on fuel is justified IMO, it makes us all think about how much we use and if that journey really is necessary - This keeps 'Peak Oil' at bay.

It also make some of us think about alternatives and then theres the environment issue - whether you believe it or not.
Oil/fuel will become too expensive for some as supply can't meet demand.

If government around the world did reduce their taxes on fuel we'd all just be driving around everywhere and the oil thats left wouldn't last very long. Some countried subsidise fuel for their citizens (China, India....) that IMO is very irresponsible!

Someone quite near to me says the same......"make petrol £20 a gallon. It'll keep the poor people off the roads and voila! no congestion......EVER!"

Quite controversial but a good discussion point!

You could draw parallells with something like fine wine, caviar or anything in limited quantities. When was the last 'Beluga Protest'? We don't need to drive as much and as far as we do. We choose to do so because it makes life easier.

I travel 120 miles a day to get to work. I don't need to, but I do it all the same. Ok, maybe slightly untrue as the place would fall apart without me:rolleyes: but I have a fuel card and fill up when needed. I do also drive the most economical car available in the range. Almost!

And do not even get me started on the price of Fish!!!!!:mad:

ahh but what you both are forgetting is that nearly everything we eat ,wear,drink is transported by road ....

we might ride fairley elitest bikes ...but thats taking it too far
