Alfa meets Ducati

Love Alfas my wife has the 147, and I recently sold my GTV V6. Main problems are the air bag warning lights (both cars)and the V6 engine suffers with air flow meter problems, 3 went on me at over £300 a fix so it had to go!

I would buy another Alfa but not any of the V6 engine models miss the engine growl though.:o

Party pooper! It is the 3.0 or 3.2 I fancied!:(
Did the problem carry over to the 3.2 do you know?

I think all the electrics are the same sorry!!! the 147 - 3.2 V6 has the same engine, Bosh air flow/mass meters! the experts tell me some audi's use the same parts and suffer from the same problems.

Use Turin motors in Leeds to service the cars have a chat with them.:)

I'm resurrecting this thread to mention that I swapped my rather aged Saab 9000 for an Alfa 156 2.0 JTS just over a week ago. The handling of the Alfa makes the Saab feel like a bus but it lacks the brutal power of the 2.3 turbo engine. I now have to change down for a quick overtake, but I'll get used to it . It has a nice Bose sound system but no electric seats. I doubt if it will be as reliable as the Saab though, in 136,000 miles apart from normal replacements of tyres, brakes, exhausts, etc. The only failure was a water pump.

Pictures please Derek!!

I'm currently experiencing some resistance to my alfa desires

Are you sure you are "selling" the correct features to the recalcitrant party?
Rear seats big enough for the little darlings/nice driving position/easy to park/economical/comes in nice colours/it is Italian/makes a nice noise/ and most importantly......."you look really good in that". ;)
Can't be that difficult surely? :)

:D:D:D
I'll get some pictures at the weekend Scott - weather permitting. It doesn't look as good as the new 159 though :(

Steve

Was probably my missus'...it's a 2.4 Turbo Diesel. 200hp and 400Nm of torque makes it pretty quick for a big beast...

Front wheel drive eats tyres mind.

My wife has the 147 twin spark she loves it!

Spooky this, I've barely visited the site in the last 6 weeks or so, & I'm after a 156 as well!
I'm even contemplating buying a no' plate thats got '156' on it before I've got one.....

You know it makes sense, Derek :)

This site is good for 156 stuff, though I'm sure you're pretty good at digging out things for yourself.

Yes, thanks Iain I've found that one already - this one too http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/
I might be interested in those Brembo calipers if you still have them.

Yes, this'll be the Ducati/Alfa Romeo Up North Forum soon :D

Steve.

I think the M is for Multijet.

For the lads out there looking for a 156, from experience I'd go for the 159 instead. It's a better built car.

Interesting that Glass's Guide doesn't list the 159. I'm sure the 159 is a better car but I wonder if the tales of unreliability with 156's are on a par with those of owning a Ducati? Fact or fiction?

To be fair to the 156, my old man had one of the early ones and his was fine apart from having to get a complete new dash when all the electrics failed! He now has a 159 1.9 td saloon and reckons it better all round.

I have a 147 Selespeed and the main problem with it has been the suspension components being made mainly of cheese, oh and using a litre of oil every 1000miles.

You do get a fair few 156/147 horror stories though.

As for my 748, a couple of electrical niggles and a starter clutch are the only problems I've had with it...

Unfortunately, I think fact is closer to the truth :-(
