Hi, I indulge myself once a year and set out for good weather, empty roads and a week of biking, beer and good food. For the past ten years myself and a few mates have done most of the favourite roads in France, Germany, Switzerland Austria and Italy including the Alps, the Vouges, the Jura mountians and of course the B500 but this year I only have a week and thought about the roads south of Dortmund.....


Anyone got any experience of this part of Germany? had thought about the Rhienwald, down towards the Nurburgring, down through the Triffel region (the B48 is megga) and back?

Places to go, roads to take and places to stay would be of intrest...

Roads in Western Germany

Hi,

You mentioned the Nurburgring. A great road is the road that runs along the Mosel Valley form Trier to Cochem. From Cochem the road heads up through the forest covered hills to the Ring. From Cochem head up the Mosel to Koblenz then turn right and head down the romantic Rhine Valley to Rudesheim stopping off to visit the Lorelei Rock. Once at Rudesheim take the cable car up to Hermans Denkmal for one of the most spectacular views of the Romantic Rhine Valley. To be honest all the roads in this area are fantastic. You can then travel over the hill and North to visit the Mohne, Eder and Sorpe dams which again are surrounded by great roads.

Great - thanks very much. I've done Adenau to Cochem and then south but not north up towards Koblenz. Certainly give it a try if the sun is shining. If not we'll be heading south, well south !
