Cool 😎 Strange 🤪 or obscure 🙃 / interesting things...

This is one of my current projects. I dont know what it is. My Dad found it in the woolshed of a farm they bought 50yrs ago. It was very patinated then and nothing was done to it until this week when I partially polished it and put a special clear coat on it. It has been beaten to this shape over a template, which would have to have been very hard stone or metal. I have googled it and cannot find anything even remotely close. I am going to mount it on a door in my house.
It may have been supposed to be part of a fire guard or similar but shows no sign of being used or mounted. 90x45cm

It's almost Lovecraftian. I get a Dagon vibe.

Interesting.

Lolz, Loz! I had to google both those things! And yes. My nursey sister said it reminds her of a baby crowning!

Really nice piece that... it could be a "fire back" - was it really black / sooty. Its the sort of thing you would have against the chimney breast behind an open fire in a big inglenook chimney, when it was clean it would really pop and sparkle with the flames (so the dragon vibe would be relevant too).... likewise it may have had a frame around it with feet to stand in front of the fire when it wasn't lit as a fire screen. The edges look like they have been cut so it was likely cut out of a frame at some point

This kind of thing...

Yep, that does seem to be the most likely scenario. The edges are quite undamaged so you may be right, it may have been removed and trimmed. Given that it was shaped over something, I was hopeful that it would not be just one of a kind and so I could date it and get some history...maybe I should find some historical boffin forum too!😀

Yep, and you need to keep annealing the copper to keep it soft and stop it splitting. This work has several splits on sharp bends. Not noticeable until you hold it up!

So I have finished mounting it on toilet door. So it is an heirloom from my family and the stained glass, and the door it is in, is an heirloom from my wifes family. They were from Lochalsh in scotland, came over on the Spray in the 1800's and settled in Waipu. Yes, I am shagging one of Finm's long lost relations!
