This does interest me but how do I confirm it's an S and not just a Biposto, some google resources state Ohlins forks for the S but stock pictures show Showa?
Is it an email to Ducati with frame and engine number to confirm?
Ask Nelly, but you will need the Frame and Engine number - do you need a BIP 996S rather than a mono? Forks look correct with the gold Nitride.

It might be overdue a shim service at 6000 miles according to Ducati Preston's Web Site as he doesn't mention it has been done which would have been a good selling point!

Milky headlights, easy to sort out.Cheers,
I'm only really bothered that it's a 996S at that price, BiP is fine, mono a bonus. Some google specs say Ohlins but that's probably just last SPS and R's.
I'm sure Showa TiN is better than I would ever need![]()

I know, timewaster apparentlyHe's just relisted it at the same price as it didn't sell before

My 996 had it's desmo by the guy i bought it off in Fareham, cost just over £1,100. According to Snells when i had them do something on it said they did a great job as i gave them a copy of the bill.£1000 off for a Desmo ServiceI see on FB recently at least 2 main dealers charging £1500 for 999 Desmo Services: Moto Rapido and Ducati Alton
748 SPS - 104 v's 996 S - 123The yesllow mono will look better IMO.
What's the difference in power?
Probs not but the option is there for a laugh - we have the Pan for pillion actionThe sps is a single seater so won't take the mrs, given the mousemat of a seat and no grabrail, would she go pillion on the 996s ?
Surely the sensible option is to get the 748, convert it to biposto and get a big-bore kit to up the capacity and horsepower?Probs not but the option is there for a laugh - we have the Pan for pillion action
I ride my 996 quite a bit and not overly bothered about the miles on it but i did buy the Enfield to take the strain of riding the 996 on a reguler basis!!So, 996 S (thanks Nelly) is confirmed as a UK 2001 996 S (BiPosto in red) and private sale in London - or Jap import 1997 748 SPS (mono in yellow) from a dealer in Lancashire. Asking prices are similar-ish.
Bike would be for using - although not a regular commuter - so not really interested in appreciating value, just fun for riding. BiPosto could be useful for 'impressing' Mrs H748 SPS may be a little too nice to use and abuse (maybe more costly to run if it needs bits too?)
Opinions welcome
The 996 or 748 would be for the sake of it, the ST4 is the preferred commuter and the Pan for 2-up ridingI ride my 996 quite a bit and not overly bothered about the miles on it but i did buy the Enfield to take the strain of riding the 996 on a reguler basis!!![]()
Just a suggestion, my 996 is like me and likes a drink, they are thirsty fuckers. The 996 or 748 would be for the sake of it, the ST4 is the preferred commuter and the Pan for 2-up riding![]()
Dunno, at 104 hp and termis it probably has a bit of a drink problem tooJust a suggestion, my 996 is like me and likes a drink, they are thirsty fuckers.Don't know what a 748 mpg is off the top of my head but i should think a lot less.

Apparently the 748 is 40-50 mpg, depending on how you ride, my 996 isn't to bad when riding at a sensible rate but give it the beans the mpg gets alarming!!Dunno, at 104 hp and termis it probably has a bit of a drink problem too![]()
That's nuts!!My 113bhp fully faired Supersport uses more fuel than my 178bhp naked Triumph.
Go figure

A standard 996 apparently does 28-36 mpg, mine has a full termi system, the 45mm-50mm with Pipercross air filters and a stage 1 Fast by Ferracci Eprom chip. It needs to go on a dyno because it needs to be smothed out a bit as it's snatchy. In Ireland it used exactly the same as @The skitz SDR - when we filled up it was within a few pennies each time.
