900ss for sale - NOW SOLD

1997 900ss with 36k miles on the clock. I am the second owner from new. It had a service, MOT and new chain and sprockets and then within 300 miles I found a crack in the upper rail of the frame near the headstock. Unfortunately I don't have the ability or time to strip the bike, to get it repaired and cannot justify getting the whole job done. Is anyone interested in buying it as it is? Please message me for more information. I am in north Surrey. Thanks.

I'll give you £50 as a favour 😁

There is a bolt on bracket to strengthen the headstock, although it looks like yours may be too far gone :(

That is a nasty fracture, what a shame!
I will quadruple @Barry Hell insulting offer to 200 knicker and a box of your favourite cheesy flavoured snack 😊

I think the OP was hoping for some rather more constructive suggestions. As I was the member who suggested he join and post here, I'm rather embarrassed by the poor show of support for a fellow Ducati enthusiast. He has been offered £1000 elsewhere, and reasonably expects it to part out at £1500. Recent major work on engine means it is in good running order. Good documentation from Ducati specialists for work done.

Why not ship it to @West Cork Paul , @Dirty Leeds can collect and return it to Paul, Paul can strip it in his shed😇, he can remove the front sprocket amongst other parts 😇, seriously though, have a keen forum member strip it for mates rates, bring frame to professional to weld, fit the support bracket and happy days 👍
Exactly 👍.

If it weren’t for the duty (10%) & vat (23%) issue I’d have that, cracked frame or not. There’s no MOT on bikes here so a bit of gaffa tape and it’ll be fine 😁. Joking aside, it’s eminently fixable, just time consuming. Perhaps @WAYNE needs a project to help him along🤔

I need more than a project dude but thank you for the thought, my 900ie got it's new MOT today so i am happy with that.
I really do appreciate the thought @West Cork Paul , i am off out to Bornemouth beach tomorrow, not been there for a long time.

But a project, especially one shared on here with us all, will take your mind off things and lift your spirits 👍

The OP did state that anyone interested or require more information to message him.
I wouldn't class a little bit of joviality in this thread as a poor show, or indeed grounds for any need for embarrassment.
I was intending to pm the OP and ask for further information, which you've partly provided.
The repair work required is not difficult, those that have undertaken the task of stripping a motorcycle to its components however, know how very time consuming and more often than not unforseen problems.
I am a Ducati enthusiast and welcome all who own or lust after the marque, including the OP who via the photo's has a lovely clean Ducati.

Perhaps the cat can help

As to the 900ss for sale. It's a real shame such a break has caused this sale.

If it was in the USA, one solution would be buying a titled frame for about $500 and replacing it. I suppose welding would be cheaper but at the prices mentioned I'd switch frames.

In any case I'm sure someone will be interested. If it was on the other side of the Atlantic, and I didn't have a needy 900ss track bike project, and an almost finalized deal on a superlight that needs TLC, I'd be very interested. ;-) Yeah, other than that stuff...

I am not so sure it is an easy repair as some have mentioned (forgetting the total strip down element). A large thumb nail section has lifted as though it has rotted from the inside - a new frame may well be the answer, meaning the £1000 already offered is probably a very good deal unfortunately.
I have the time and ability 🤪 to take it on but wouldn't even if it was free when looking at the general condition as it would likely need a full resto and work out more expensive than buying a nice example with no issues.
Just my opinion 🤷‍♂️

Chad @Rcv4 if he's not busy welding might see this summons and give an opinion.

Pretty easy fix I think..
Not a complete strip.
Fairings , tank, airbox and a few bits n bobs off, weld in situ and fit a brace. From what I understand it's quite common ( hence the braces being made/sold for to prevent exactly this issue) although I thought it affects the older ( pre 95 bikes?) .. I doubt as @Exige suggested, the frame is rotting from the inside out, if it is, that's something I've never heard of on these bikes.
I've owned 3 97 ss's and not had any frame issues at all.

Did this actually sell, I only ask as I saw this ?

The 900ss NERO below looks good (y).

The title of this thread was changed to sold wayne so I pressume the new owner had the repairs done and it's now up for sale?
