VMCC festival of 1000 Bikes

Me and Linzi just got back from Mallory and the VMCC Festival. Up at 5.30 and thought we'd drive as forecast was lousy despite a nice sunny morning here in Penrith.

As forecast it was wet but it didn't spoil a very enjoyable day, these events are my favourite - after weekends at BSB then DD it really brought home just how sad an old git i've turned into :D but I couldn't care less, i love to see and hear old bikes and seeing the passion and pride that goes into keeping them running was worth a 3 1/2 hour drive each way. It was highly impressive to watch a few of the bikes being thrashed, the riders were pushing on despite the wet conditions and one of the Norton rotary bikes almost highsided in front of us :eek:

the Laverda stand looked good, lots of monties, formulas and SF's

it was damp but well worth it, managed to get a few good action shots, nice and crisp plus a bit of motion blur, need to get to a few more events to practice

Nice one, I saw a couple of Oldies today aswell !

They had some RC cars flying around and got some really good shots, weather was a bit better at The Heaves Hotel though, really good little event and the chap that owns the Ducati's should be having a look in here at some point !

Excellent pictures.....just too bad there is no sound!
Photo 57 (MV Single) is same as the bike at the Loch Ness rally that I never managed to download....what is it?
July Classic Bike had a couple of items on today's event and the club were saying they are trying to broaden their appeal and lose the fuddy duddy image.
Oh and there is an in depth article on the Laverda V6 with Piero Laverda. Well worth £3.50 of your hard earned stuff.:)

i can't describe the sound of the V6 Stewart, it wasn't just the way it revv'ed but as it shuts off the noise drops really quickly then it barks back again as the throttle opens. the norton rotaries had a unique sound as well.

which photo of the mv Stewart, can you link to it?

the ILOC is in a difficult position, no new bikes being built means no new, younger owners so the club "ages".

i'll pick Classic bike up tomorrow :)
 
ah, i worked out which number 57 :)

i think its an a 125 turismo rapido but there was also a 175 version about the same time ( mid/late 50's)

the mv registry has a 175 listed

Yes that's the one. Not sure which one it was at Loch Ness but it's front brake seized going down a steep brae which resulted in the Pantah behind taking avoiding action and ending in the scenery. The Pantah was only just on the road having been rebuilt after several years as a pile of bits.:o
The MV was as least as tidy if not more so than "your" one.
Really must try and sort out this photo resizing nonsense.:comp2:
The question of an ageing membership applies in many areas of the club scene whether it is 2 or 4 wheels. I seem to get an impression there is a move towards "classic" bikes amongst riders approaching 40 and above. Perhaps it is riders realising that there is more enjoyment out of fettling your own bike and going for runs at (almost) legal speeds and seeing the scenery than trying out some theoretical top speed on the latest race rep. I have a mate who is packing in the 999 after a dozen Dukes and 50+ Jap bikes and settling on a Darmah as his main bike. I have seen items in magazines about some vintage clubs inviting the public along to "have a go" on proper old bikes to try and keep the interest maintained with the younger generation.
