Sacrilege ?

agreed, i too think it is a lovely looking bike, i usually have a look at it while im there, which seems to be every frickin weekend at the mo :comp2:

Nah Footpegs and exhaust hangers lifted staight off GT model are minging!:puke:

Cheapskate B******s!

Still at least they've got 2 shocks now.

Its fab! Easily the nicest looking bike in Ducati's range.
I'd buy one tomorrow if I didnt know for certain my body would never be found. :o :p
The only caveat is that they use the same budget brakes as the s2r800 and M695.

it is a very nice bike, id love one of the older bikes, but if i had to choose it would be Eddies imola.

Trouble for me is I don't think they come close to the original GT or Sport.
The idea was great put a new slant on the old theme but someone missed the plot on the design front. Whereas you had a pair of gorgeous Conti's on the original someone found a couple of lengths of drain pipes painted them black and shoved them on the side of the new bike. People complained about uncomfortable riding position below 60 mph. People would buy them to "pose" around town in cafe racer style so did anyone test ride them before going into production. Ducati "relaunch" it after a year with 2 shocks (agreed arj..it was an improvement) but still the styling detail misses the mark on several fronts. This COULD and SHOULD have been a runaway success and I would have parted with my cash for one IF they had spent another 10 minutes thinking about the styling. How long before the Mk3 version is launched and are you going to throw away a large sum of money on depreciation on another obsolete model? Why not take your £7.5K and buy the best original Sport or GT going and watch your bike go up in value? This Classic range smacks of desperation on the part of the factory to get something into production quickly to raise income. A golden opportunity squandered IMO. It is still only 90% of what it should be.

I remember when they were first introduced, the first thing that a very accomplished bike designer, tuner and racer said to me was,

"Look that that swingarm, pure styling and crap design, too much strain on one side. Look at that front end, too steep, hence the damper to try and keep the front end from shaking your false teeth out. Look at the riding position, bad ergonomics, and look that the monstrosity of an exhaust, you wait, they will put a twin set up on the next one"...the list went on.

...are look twin shocks, and twin exhausts. But it still only has the old twin pot front calipers (compromise coz of the spoked wheels). The seat hump is giant giving it a 'fat ar*e' look about it, and as Stewart pointed out, it needs Conti type replica pipes on it.

There; I've said it. It is much better looking than the original bikes, the colour scheme is lovely, but its a design compromise through and through, much like the MHe was before it. Unfortuneatley it's governed by modern bike legislation about design and safety etc. unlike mine for example, whereby we could build it to our spec without the constraints of Eurobollox Enumbers!!!!

I think the Baines is much nicer looking, but still ruined by the rear end, especially by the the exhaust hanger triangulated section of frame.

Sorry folks but there's no substitute for the real thing!

I have to agree that there just isn't a substitute for the real thing, but I don't agree with the rear end being ruined; frame layout, the seat moulding is taken from the original as is the rear mudguard and CEV tail light. The triangulation is designed to withstand the weight of a passenger should the customer want a twin seat version. Lets face it, it ain't that much different from the original - and it is a 'modern rendition' of the original (certainly handles better!! :) )

I mentioned that in an earlier thread it reminded me of the seat on a classic Massey Ferguson tractor! Oh and the fairing hides the fact that the bottom edge of the tank looks as if the wrong tank has been stuck on the frame so that is an improvement. Perhaps all just small details but if they could get the looks right 30 years ago why not now?
Beware the wrath of a Bevelhead!:D

Well there's the small matters such as emissions, noise regs etc. etc. I think most of the 'tank' is actually an airbox cover. This makes it fat at the front which they have carried on at the rear. Also running much bigger tyres circa 120/18 is about as big as you want on the rear of a Bevel. The Sport Classics are on 180/17.
Then they've got cat in both pipes ( avoiding Multi udder look!) but I bet they weigh a ton. I quickly touched the very back of one of Martyns GT cans last year at the Northern Rally expecting it to be hot, but it was flesh searing hot!

I must admitt, I don't like the original rear mudguard only half covering the rear tyre on the Imola. It's not so obvious with the 160/17 in for the track, but with the 170 or 180(only a temporary thing) it looks a bit strange viewed directly from the rear.

...yes, my cats avoid climbing inside my pipes, they prefer to sit on the seats and feel the warmth of the cooling engine beneath them... :p

...Cats; pah.... I laugh in the face of Cats. Eurocrats; Pah... I laugh in the face of Eurocrats...:p

Emissions; I'm more worried about the emissions that my 6 & 8 year old daughters produce!

Back on subject; I think the latest Sport Classic does look good, I think the combination of black rims, frame etc. and red bodywork works beautifully. It overcomes some of the bad design bits. Lets face it, whos gonna leave those ugly black cans on the end anyway, stainless Keihans (Conti Replicas like mine) will bolt on.

...right, I'm gonna go and watch some 125cc qualifying...
