Restaurant in Edinburgh ???

Some friends are coming up the E'Burgh next weekend, they are staying in a B&B on Princes Street and are looking for some reccomendations for food, not Curry but anything else goes ???

Nice but not to pricey would be good, they are older and a romantic setting would be good ?
 
Never been out much in Edinburgh to be honest Ian.

But, I do like Caprice down Leith walk - nice old Italian place.

Could also try Valvone & Crolla near the Playhouse - never eaten there but reputation suggests it is excellent. One of the owners writes a food column in the Scotsman newspaper I believe. Also Italian. Think they may have opened up a 2nd place next to Harvey Nics, St. Andrews Square I believe.

Do let us know how they get on and where they do go!
 
Davie would be able to give you a better idea I'd expect mate.

At least he'd be able to give them a pub guide if nothing else!! :D

if they are wanting something super-romantic then they should go to the witchery- absolutely stunning - they won't be able to afford to do anything else after mind you - 'tis slightly pricey but the place is so amazing its worth it!! see if you can google it and find any pics. Have been taken there once and was almost worth sticking with the guy just so i could get the chance to go again.

apart from that anytime i'm through in ed, its not much of a restaurant crawl, more of a bar one so sorry can't be of much help
 
Witchery??????? Just take your mortgage deeds to the restaurant to give to the waiter. The place is amazing Ive heard...one of Scotlands top grub joints!!

For Italian in town centre - "Bar Roma", "Est Est Est", "Juliano's"
Chinese- "Edinburgh Rendevouz"
A nice stylish restaurant is "Olaroso"

Try and google them

Cool thanks guys, I will look 'em up, downside is I have the dog for the weekend, I will have 4 dogs in the house next weekend :eek:
 
If they're after a Scottish theme (and I don't mean deep-froed Mars bars) try Stac Polly (they have two restaurants, I think).
 
Here's another vote for The Witchery , and it's not that expensive really , getting a table is the hard part.

It has 2 separate restaurants , The Witchery istelf on streel level and The Secret Garden downstairs , you will get a great meal for 2 for under £100 including wine.

Also very good is Guillianos , on Leith walk opposite The Playhouse , I would highly reccomend the Beef fillet on ceasar salad , mmmmmm

Accross the road from Guillanos is Valvona and Crola which Scotty mentioned , now they are expensive but very good , I've onky been there for lunch but a sandwich and a glass of wine was £25 , it was a very nice sandwich but too pricey , having said that there is usually a queue to get in a lunctime on saturdays so they are getting away with it.

Davie, the man is waited on hand and foot - he's used to gourmet meals on the table as he gets home from work, all prepared by the magic fairies :p
