M1100s

Hi,
DG have the new M1100s on display - saw it on Saturday. Much taller than the 696 (40mm) but I still found it comfortable to sit on and reach the ground easily. Overall I like the bike but still have reservations about the exhaust passing up the right hand side. Don't like the standard slipon's or the number plate bracket - too long for me. However termi's and tail tidy are available that will rectify these issue. Like the livery of red tank/frame and gold wheels. Much prefer the single sided swingarm. On the whole a great looking bike and with the hypermotard engine should perform very well. Think it will be available as a demo when the weather improves.

You considering one then Geoff?

Some of the reservations I had about the 696 have been tweaked with the bigger model, namely the ghastly eyesore of a subframe being made less prominant by blacking out, shame they didnt do it with the footpeg hangers too.
The one feature I still find awkward is the position of the silencers,if they were raised a little closer to the seat unit it would fill that gap and clean up the rear wheel.
I still like the SR monsters better though, it'll be interesting to see the modifications that are done to this model across the world, sometimes that points to what Ducati should have considered as design elements in the first place.

Hi Dave,
Like you I still prefer the look of the M1000 and the S2R1000 but design has to move on. Given the choice at the time 2004 single sided to double sided swingarm then I would have opted for the S2R1000. During the summer when I was having lot's of problems with my monster I swore I was going to change my commuting bike. However she's much better now and I would hate to part with her. The problem is paying out all that money for another monster which I will need to run through the winter and watch the paint flake off no matter how much you care for her. I'm at nearly 40,000 on my monster and she still looks reasonable but it takes some amount of time after work to keep her that way. As I have my 1098 tricolore I couldn't justify another bike so in order to consider a M1100 I would need to part with my M1000.
My problem is I prefer to ride my bikes also in the winter - restricted use of some to dry crisp days but my monster in all weathers. Don't see the point of two monsters. Maybe after a demo ride next year who knows.
