So, yesterday around 11ish I posted my application to do the registration plate change on the bike back down to Elite Registrations in Devizes & this morning I had an email with the certificate from the DVLA confirming the swop. I can't believe how quick that was done, well impressed

They have to do them quick so you’re not waiting to be legal, and it’s all digital now.
Used to be you had to go to a DVLA office if you wanted a quick change.

Yes you had to pick a number from the machine and sit and wait. It was always rammed.

And today the speedo packed up working when I went out to try it again. All the idiot lights work, but speedo needle was somewhat erratic to say the least. This bike is fighting me now, think it needs a good thrashing as Basel Fawlty would do !!

Yesterday also revealed another problem, sort of battery related !
Over-charging, the Motogadget unit recorded an over-voltage up to 17.2v, which isn't, wasn't good news either for me or the lithium battery I was using !!
Once the engine was running the battery voltage kept steadily rising with the regulator showing no signs of cutting in & keeping a steady charging voltage. Initially the regulator seem to be fine as this was one of the first things I checked when I'd got the engine running because at the time I was still planning to use a lithium battery & it's well documented about what over-charging can do to lithium batteries !!

The regulator I am using is supposed to be suitable for lithium batteries having its charging voltage clipped to between 13.7v to 14.2v I think. Clearly 17.2v isn't good, not even for a lead acid battery.
I do have a spare regulator & after checking my wiring & connections I decided to fit the spare & try it. This second regulator works perfectly so I'll use my spare & see if I can get a replacement for the first one I fitted. The problem might be though I'd bought the charging kit two years ago & although this is the first time it's been used I suspect the supplier will not be very keen to replace it under warranty. I've contacted them & explained the situation so I'll just have to see what they come back with, if anything

Rooted out a couple of spare domed end caps I had stashed away to make the new oil tank. Also found some steel AN weld in bungs too so all I need now are some mounts & fittings machining up for the filler cap, level window & drain plug.
I have actually now made the drain plug mount & filler neck, so just got the threaded mounts to make now, which I'll do tomorrow. I'll just be making the front two mounts to start with as the rear mounts will depend upon exactly how much room I have, which I won't really know for sure until the oil tank & battery tray are joined together !

Also, made a cardboard battery to the size of the battery that I'm going to now use to make sure everything fits. The actual battery is on a four or five week lead time with the supplier so at least I can get on making the oil tank part of it & then I'll be able to see how much room I have for the battery tray part of it.
