Can anyone recommend a UK dealer for the shims I require?
Many thanks,

Surely any Ducati service place should be able to get them if not hold stock. Admittedly they may not swap but you never know, they may give a discount in return for yours.

Someone on A.N. Other forum had started a shim exchange thread ( as a sticky ? )
and had even begun an inventory / database of spare shims that other members were holding .

It sank without a trace , which is a shame because it's such a valuable resource
.... if you stop to think about it .

I'll try to track it down later , and maybe we could start something similar ?

We are a bit light on here when it comes to techie stuff ......
.....IMHO

;)

Light on techie stuff but high on knowledge 🤪 it will only grow when people find us on searches when they have problems and this will happen when the forum grows and climbs the Google ladder 🤷‍♂️ it's doing exceptionally well after only a few months being active.

I've got a link somewhere to an American firm who supply an excellent range of
Ducati valve tools and shims .

The Spaniard in the works is the shipping and customs charges to Europe
.... last time I looked , P&P to US addresses was around $3 ,
but to overseas addresses it was silly money .... around $35 ,
.... and that's before customs put their filthy greedy fingers in !!!

The US prices for delivery always amaze me, they charge $30.00 for the smallest of items 🤷‍♂️

I agree with you completely , on all of those points ..... you're preaching to the choir mate .... :):)

We already have a wealth of talent on here ..... yourself , @Derek and @Nelly , to name just a few ,
but the problem , as with all things internet , is " visibility " and how to make this the " go to " place
for Ducati tech chat .

PS - I think this forum is doing amazingly well at being a comfortable place for all Ducati lovers to meet up ,
with the added bonus that moderation is done with a very light touch .
It's an art ( and maybe a science ) that many forums lack .....
..... some of the crap that I see on computer / techie forums just beggars belief ....

I wouldn't include me in your list 🤪

I know when I had the fugley serviced with Glenn at Moto V outside Colchester, he had to swap over 2 shims but he gave me the ones taken out. He had noted that some garages take the ones out, charge you for the new ones but the dealer or mechanic tends to keep what they have taken out.

Do you have any independent or main dealers close to you Xtro?

Yes I’m going to try Ducati Manchester and Stoke. shipping from EMS in US silly money $67 !
Must be commonly required part, surprised you can’t just order them online, but seemingly not.
Thanks.

I have access to the Google spreadsheet that holds the info (just need my laptop to find the link) but I don’t think there are 749 shims in there hence I didn’t volunteer the info earlier.

Edit: managed to access my laptop bookmarks from my phone

Are they 8mm or 7mm?

I would offer to help but the closers I have are : 2.70, 2.75, 2.85, 2.90 & 3.05.
They come in 0.05mm increments so for the 3.32 go for 3.30 and for 3.47 a 3.45 is a near as you will get.

Thanks Derek, I only realised after my post they come in 0.05 increments. Mind you measuring up the 3.20’s I have seem to be +/- 0.02 anyway.
I guess everyone ends up with small closers as left overs. I assume the valves bedding in over time causes the closure gap to increase and the opener gap to decrease.

Generally, 2v engines pre DS are 8mm, DS and later are 7mm.
All 4V engines are 7mm except for 749S/749R/999R which are 6mm and use tapered collets instead of half rings for hold the closers.
There have been small changes to the closers over the years but I think they are all

Thanks for the link. When I get this sorted I can add in what I have left over.

You may not have edit rights, if that’s the case let me know and I’ll add them.

Also, perhaps @The GOAT could make it stick at the top of the section so others can find it in the future please ?
