Don't want to start a how much we pay thread :comp2: but just had my renewal through for my 900SS from Bennetts ..£305 including legal expenses and breakdown.
Have done the usual trolling the web for quotes and have one from Carole Nash for £131 including up to 50k legal expenses and breakdown.

Appears Bennetts like to entice you in with a very attractive 1st year premium and hope you don't check the renewal too closely..well nae doubt they all do similer:eek: needless to say I won't be back with Bennetts.
Are there any good co.'s that'll quote me on a classic policy, bikes 15 years old so should qualify ?

cheers,Colin

Carole Nash were always a good deal for me on my mille but this year decided to go Gocompare.com and got it even cheaper, which Carole Nash couldn't or wouldn't match. Same with the car...throws up really cheap deals.

Try Footman James for classic policies.

My experience is they are more switched on than most of the rest and less "call centre" in their approach.

They can do a mix of classic and modern on the one policy which is a useful facility perhaps.

I wouldn't pay extra for legal expense cover. (if it is included free, fine)

You can get a loss recovery firm to handle for free if you ever needed it.

Check excesses total (voluntary and compulsory) and ask about foreign use restrictions/costs if you are thinking of going abroad.

From recent experience, due to not believing the quotes i was getting, I learnt that most insurance roads lead to Equity Red Star :dunno: The varience was amazing at the broker end though! Paying a fair bit as I've yet to keep a bike long enough in recent years to rack up even a token NCB

Mine wathrough Bennets for a near identical bike ('92 900SS) - and the renewal was raised from previous years £120 to £190+ for a basic fully comp .... a ten minute 'phone call to them asking for a better deal and it was £170 including business use, pillion, euro breakdown and legal cover .... and yep, when the policy arrived, as with most brokers, it was Equity Red Star....

All insurance companies do it hoping you'll just let them take the inflated figure out your account.....

Just had a very pleasurable insurance experience!

I paid a very realistic amount for a new policy on an additional vehicle yesterday.

After doing a wee bit searching on t'internet, I thought I would try a little independant broker away up in the highlands.

Just so happens it's our very own 239desmo

So, if you're looking for a reassuring, friendly voice that you know you can trust and who'll be there for you when you need him most try: www.jmooreinsurance.co.uk

Hope this is OK Stewart!
p.s. the cover note arrived, as promised - cheers mate

I would never suggest anyone uses Bennetts, useless bunch of theivin tossers that won't refund premiums until you almost end up threatening legal action, avoid!

My story from todays car insurance renewal, get reminder, premium 438 but gve them a call and i should get 10% discount, i do so, go through the checking, no accidents or confictions, I say no, just the speeding I informed you about last year, girl then says its not on computer.... ok, put it on say I, we'll have to increase the renewal and backcharge for the current year is the reply, premium then goes up to 441 inc discount beyond what it started at and they want £58 for this year. Fook you say I, I'm off to find a better quote.

Go online, enter my details and up pops a quote for 292 ok i'll take that, cover is equal to what i have now, legal expenses etc etc, start to look closer and realise its with same ookin company!! call the new business line explain what has gone on, get transferred back to renewals who explain thats cos i put a lower value in for me car (fairly obvious its dropped in value to me, i've had it 2 years) and i only wanted 7000 miles ( currently 10K) anyway they then agree to do it at 292 but still want the 58 for the SP conviction, i try to tell them i've actually only done 5000 miles this year and car has been worth less than i originally insured it for to no avail. Oh well, total came out at 350 less than i'd thought anyway.

I'm still wondering what they'll pay out if there was a total loss claim before the renewal date?, I'd bet it would be current real value not the sum i had it insured for in Jan 07!

Absolutely no doubt about that and it would probably be the trade-in price that they would offer you.

If car is less than a year old normally it would be replaced with an identical model.

Over a year old it is the "market value" at time of loss subject to the value selected by you at time of putting vehicle on cover. (in theory at least. In days of call centres some areas are missed in claims when they should be picked up and at other times you will have endless "discussions" with a junior who has no grasp of the situation.)

Only way to avoid arguments over "value" is if the policy is on an agreed value basis. Normally only classic policies though.
