I need an old round case in my life

I’ve run a fine tooth comb through Car and classic and Autotrader for weeks now, and I’ve been to see a few but none that hit the spot.

What have you got hidden away please?

Open to anything Hugh, but I’m not in the 750SS arena.o_O
I have seen some lovely bikes £29-40k but not quite hit the spot….yet!
(Including John F’s bikes at MII, Stowmarket.)

Condition must be original spec (as far as poss) or have original parts included.

In order of preferences
# 1973/75 (ish) 750 Sport
# 900 super sport (earlier the better)

Or if I can’t find one then possibly even a Guzzi
# 750s or a
# first edition Le Mans (round light)

Happy to travel for right machine.

Bump.

Do you have an old bevel gathering dust, and needing a new home, guaranteed it’ll be smothered with TLC.

Thanks again (really, I’m very grateful) but no, I’ll hang out for a 750 sport for a while longer, although it’s a case of diminishing returns. There can’t be too many left, I’ve seen four in the flesh, and each requires a significant amount of cash to bring it up to my wants.

There’s nowt as expensive as a cheap Ducati.

Thank you

Fingers crossed my search is over and, hopefully very soon, I’ll take delivery of a peach of a machine which IMHO is one of the best examples of a 750 sport I’ve ever ever seen. Not advertised for sale, this one has been in a private collection for about 35 years!

It’s been a very steep learning curve, for instance:-
I learnt that beyond the normal 1972-74 manufacture years, a small batch of 750 sports were built in Australia as late as in 1978 - made from original parts.

The 74 paintwork was actually much more orange than the preceding years- I thought it was just a restorers colour matching bodge but no, the last bikes in 74 were almost bright orange!

Original 750 sport spokes were painted gray, and were not chrome or stainless, and were marked by the letter A (Alpine?) on the head!

And - just how blooming expensive the correct Aprilia headlamp lens is.
And just how rubbish the kick start design is!

Thanks for taking an interest.

Pics to follow in good time, I don’t want to invoke Sod’s law.

More stuff like ..

The original hex bolts had diagonal striation grooves on the head.

That the engine mount bolts had yellow nyloc inserts.

The decals were water slide, and not laquered over, so you could feel the edges.

That the HT leads came in red cloth too, but most commonly green cloth.

Fascinating stuff, I’m becoming a rivet counter. :ROFLMAO:
