how strange the sdc (ramblings of a lunatic)

its funny when i look back a few years ago to when the scottish ducati club (pre official recognition days) first started. I heard about rumours of a ducati club after a friend of mine had bumped into scott at east fortune racing, and scott told him about his idea for a scottish ducati club.
I contacted scott through email to be told i was the first person to contact him about it, though i ended up member No 4 or something like that???.
We arranged to meet at the soon to happen, Scottish motorcycle show and remember being about the only one to show up on a bike cause the weather was crap and i think i was about the only one that rode all year round at that time.(i dont any more). I think that the people there were myself, scott, davie burnie, davie ravie, derek, drew v2 and i think fraser, apologies to anyone i missed , we generally arranged to keep in touch and get out for a run together some time .
Scott had a web site set up that had some of my best work on it, reviews of the various runs we went on and my chat with the managing director of yamaha uk, amongst others and there was a small group of us, who used to get together for runs. I met a hell of a lot of guys who normally i wouldnt have met up with and had some great times with them.
I can remember going on our 1st hissy run with davie not knowing the direction to anywhere and meeting people like nic for the first time a bright and funny young girl and hearing all the sheep we passed by shouting for daaaavie. not the best of weather but a good run with a good turnout, even some of the southeners came up to meet us at hawick and it was good to put some faces to names on here.(we had ditched our own site by then and were using dun by then) .
as time went on the scottish ducati club became officially recognised by ducati, mainly down to the hard work of scott and david burnie and others. some of the original people faded into the background and others came forward to carry the club further forward. it has become more organised, theres a signing in book now and liability disclaimer forms now for runs, though if you feel that you might want to sue a fellow club member due to an accident you dont really deserve to be a member of anything at all .
there are so many members now i dont even know the half of them, and unfortunately i dont get enough time to get out these days, work and family have to come first. i do miss the fact that at one time i knew everyone and i had some good times, with a really good bunch of friends, but things change. i wish there was still that informality of the original group and the small numbers involved, but if it had stayed that way, so many people who enjoy it now , wouldnt have the fun that i already have enjoyed.
Ranald do you remember when tam came of and broke his neck we had to ask the police for his surname when they put him in the ambulance as we didnt know, then when davie ravie and me went to see him in hospital that night we walked past him twice as we didnt recognise him. but we cared enough to go and see him as everyone else got in contact with him as soon as they could.
i tell you know i thank all the people who have become friends with me on here, far to many to mention and i look forward to seeing a lot of you out on the borders run this weekend. though i wont be signing in and no disclaimer either . i look forward to many more good runs and great craic with everyone, here to the future.

Great small novel Gordon.:thumbs::thumbs:
Agree with the SDC being organised & run by some TOP people.
But,
Do not have time to type that length of message.

My comments on the SDC is
Its a .......en brill club, with mega craic & great members.:):)

Roll on the summer:flash::flash:

It may interest you to know that in 2003, following a trip to the Ducati Club Presidents Meeting at the A1 ring, I tried to start a Scottish Ducati Club. Unfortunately the idea was met with a fair deal of opposition from south of the border and it didn't happen.

I was therefore delighted when the current club started and was happy to help in any way I could.

I know you're not keen on the signing thing Gordon but it does help when arranging meeting, runs etc.
There was a list of who had attended what at the AGM and it was very well received.

As for the disclaimer it's either that or the SDC would have to consider public liability insurance which would mean charging people.

The club has grown but I feel it still manages to retain an informal ethos. Long may it continue.:D:thumbs:

Great post Gordon and you have no idea how much we all miss your sense of humour, irony, your sometimes wayyyy to logical take on things, and, occassionally;), the sarcasm and the wit that made them all absolutely great write-ups of all our antics while out and about. I would, very often, have tears of laughter streaming down my cheeks while reading them!
You were IIRC the first person to speak to me when I attended the BSB via Ducati Glasgow and rode up on my own not knowing a single soul other than via the forum, and I only recognised Tam as his neck was broken and he had his collar on!! Had I had a crap day then then I wouldn't still be here doing this now
Yes the club has moved on from then and there are more members now and we need the disclaimer etc, but that feeling of still be small and unique and all good mates when we go out still exists I'm glad to say - in abundance :)

Looking forward to catching up with you on Sunday - hope you're ready for your kickin'!!

Just to highlight what a "unique" style Gord used to employ on his write-ups of runs I trawled thru the archives and came across this gem from 2006 I think!

Over to you Gord!

"sunday morning 8.30ish daqvie ravie phones me to make sure im up,straight away he gets me into trouble by asking for the master of the house.that didnt go down well with the wife, result 1 kicking for me.
made my way to the meeting point of the burger van at straiton where davie has assured us you can get great bacon rolls, the bloody thing is not open nice one davie.i meet other members tam, ranald, paul, nic and scott with the panzer and jenna introduce myself to those who dont know me and miracle of miracles no one has tried to attack me,so were off to a good start.after hearing how poor nicky was cold i gave her the lining out my jacket (gentleman me) notice davies well kempt eyebrows,we stand in the rain getting wetter till we all realise were not waiting on anybody else, and then we head off.
roads were a bit wet so we kept to a reasonable pace but after a while i noticed tam and ranald were missing so i went back to look and found tam at the side of the road with ranald looking remarkbly well considering his accident.
we kept tam company while we waited on the police and ambulance while tam shivered with a mixture of cold and shock.the ambulance eventually arrived and put a neck brace on tam and got him on a wee stretcher/chair thing and loaded him up.thats the point where me and ranald realised that we didnt know tams last name and had to ask the police for it so we knew who to ask about later.(im sure tam will tell you all himself that i spoke a load of drivel to him while he waited and that if he ever comes out with us again he wants me kept away from him ).
me and ranald then headed on to glentrees to catch up with everyone.where the sun was out,it was nice and warm and davy and nic were discussing the best way to look after eyebrows.after a quick cup of tea for me and ranald we needed it, and bringing everyone up to date about tam (we thought he wasnt too bad at the time) we then slagged davie a wee bit then headed of to hawick.
the route we took to hawick was beautiful tho the longest way ive went for a short cut,and thankfully i sorted out my tyre pressures at peebles cause i dont think they were helping my handling much, and i needed to be able to ride the thing because what little skill i had seemed to desert me on sunday.
on one corner a stone from ranalds back tyre whacked the centre of my visor making me drop it down a gear instead of braking (i dont know) another i was watching nic taking a bend and forgot to set myself up for the same bend and for some reason i kept on trying to scrub of speed with the wee brake on the back rather than the two big ones on the front.
hawick was good seeing all the bikes in one place and meeting various people.nimue/jan introduced herself as a purveyor of smut, which is a fine hobby for a woman,i saw bob and lilly with her hands inside playing with his internals and many other folk who i was too shy to talk to.didnt realise that was pibbows bike parked on the road what an absolute cracker (i hope you enjoyed the ride out mate ) and luckily for us lot from edinburgh we had a secret weapon in frankie as he was from hawick and told us where the good pub food was.and good it was, i was starving and needed that fish and chips and i think everyone enjoyed it, tho i was a bit jealous when i saw what frankie got for his scampy.now im not saying that hawick folk look after there own better than us ,but instead of a fork they gave him a shovel to eat it with. i reckon tho Frankie must be the hawick version of the queen, `cause folk kept on coming up to him and shaking his hand in the street and everybody seemed to feed him or let him into museums for free.
the rest of the journey was a nice easily forgotten trip in the rain home up the a7 where me, paul and davie seemed to be continually held up by busses and cars and such like.

the only really worrying thing was when we were driving near sheep, or for that matter stopped anywhere near them.Did anyone else notice they all seemed to be saying "daaaave" "daaaaave" is davy the sheep king or is there something more sinister going on.
anyway enough ramblings well done if you read this crap this far through
"

The stuff of legend I think you will agree:):D

Brings back lots of sore memories that and where's the porno mag i was promised :D
Know how you feel about not gettin out as much Gordy as i'm in the same boat luckily noo wie you ;):D
Stupid thing was the next time we did the Hawick run i went through that corner at speed and had to ask the two of you where i came off as it was an easy corner, maybe too many things on my mind at that time.
But as you say the times with this club have been great and it's nice to see it's grown so well in the very capable hands of Scott and co.
Hopefully this year i will get out on a couple of runs as i do miss the banter and of corse your ugly mug :p
And by the way you only came to the hospital so you and Davie could ogle the nurses ;):D
