Technically a rounded rectangle, but it's not a fookin oval in any sense of the word.

Wrong, that shape is "A Stadium". A rectangular shape with rounded ends. It does not fit the criteria of an oval.
I feel oval gate coming on with 700 pages on the subject because of a shitty Honda that never caught on.

Re the NR… In 1998, whilst living in Japan, me and an ex were on our way from Tokyo to Sugo for the last round of WSB. Foggy won by the way. We stopped in a service area full of bikes and I heard a different engine note arrive. Turned round and a young guy(minted business) pulled up right beside me on an NR.

Nah, it was Stephen James back in the early 90's. I remember he was in the newspapers with the NR750, but well pre-tinterwebs, so I can't find anything about it.
Stephen Lee is far more recent. Glad to hear he's into his bikes though
