Brake pads....

Freak

Is it still summer?
Well what a panic...

As you know off to Jerez this week :D and final strip/clean of the bikes yesterday before they get shipped only to discover when cleaning said brakes there's barely any pads left on the 999

So I phone my "local Ducati store" and ask if they've got any pads for my bike, they um and arrhhh for a minute and ask me to phone back 10 minutes later, so 10 minutes pass and I phone back... sorry sir we have no pads in stock???? What no pads for P4 calipers which the 999/749 998 and later 748 models plus Monsters amongst others have as standard????

Needless to say a call direct to John Hackett on a Sunday afternoon to his moby resolves the problem, just got to take them with me in the hand luggage as the bikes needed dropping off before I got them.

So big up to JHP again, and no big up for the local store for not stocking a very basic consumable item, their loss I guess.

GPR had a deal on the Brembo p4 pads, loads in stock, in the trade section at St elsewhere.

Why would Spar stock brake pads anyway??? :D
are spar stocking brake pads, is there anything those hard working, late opening ,local convenience stores dont think off?:lol2:

Spar are OK for mini moto bits like chains and spanny pipes no good for R bits:D

Maybe just find a car up on bricks rip the pads out and hack em to shape;)

if they had owt about 'em they would have ripped some from a stock bike and ordered in more!

That was my thoughts too Pete as you know they'd of been a few bikes sitting on the floor with the very same pads in, but hey ho all sorted now.

Only 2 days to go before we fly out :D

You would not believe how few people who fit their own brakes use genuine Ducati, most buy aftermarket which is one a reason they are not stockpiled, we can have one set in for months then to need them at the sme time, they can be air ordered next day though, any future issues use the direct number 07977 939136.

Visited the same caring sharing DEALER? the other week. Parked my lorry down the road opposite the antiques guy. Walked back to shop. Had a wee look about tried to make friendly conversation with staff. Almost totally ignored. Was it to do with my working attire or Scottish accent? Walked out rather p1ssed off!!!. Needless to say I won't be back.

PS I spent a nice 30 minutes speaking to the guy at the antiques barn. He did'nt seem to bothered about a guy in working togs.

Come on guy's try a wee bit harder.

A lesson could be learned from Ducati Glasgow.

Great service and ALWAY'S a warm welcome.

Well I really need to have a description of who ignored you !!!! I do not care if you come in naked !!!!!

What day was it please ???

When I went to Ducati Leeds they seemed to stock EBC. No problems, they are good pads, so bought them. Surely you must get through shed loads of pads, Martyn? I have to have many different pad types and shapes for MTB's, sintered and non-sintered. They are not that expensive to stock, pro-rata and it amazes and delights customers when I can produce some of the relatively obscure ones. Even if I have to chuck them out at some of the prices that the online retailers do  or the magazine discounters, it is a good chance to "capture" the customer. I must get over and see you one day soon. Despite this thread I know you will be working hard to make things work well.

Pete, Martin is working very hard and Duc Manc is a lot better place than it was but unfortunately you hit the nail on the head "Capturing the customer" and Duc Manc has lost a lot of customers over the years.

Thanks very much, it really does upset me as we are all trying extra hard, not enough it would seem.

Pads
As far as I know as we are a store we should only stock genuine, other dealers get away with it as they have other brands in the showroom, I can get other makes but not have them here, all it needs is a call to the old mobile. But I will attempt to stock another brand, tell me what you want and I will try to do it !!!!

I would have thought that you could stock anything you like in terms of accessories and spares, unless the arrangements are different in your trade. I am admittedly a fully independent set up here and although I have my primary brands of bikes which I am loyal to and sell a lot of, they don't pay me a retainer for that. I have to make my own money. Ducati can surely not have a problem with selling other goods? It's probably the "extras" that make the most margin, and it's that margin which is important, at least in my set up anyway. If they can't see that and insist you sell only Ducati pads, for instance, then they bloody well ought to - especially as your cusomers are telling you as much......... Get the money in your till rather than anyone else's!

The customer is always right, if they are asking for EBC or Carbon Lorraine then you stock them. Lean management theory would tell you if 99 out of 100 customers came into your shop and asked for Pizza then you would start to sell Pizza.

Ask British Airways, they now make more money out of Credit Cards than flights. Oh and Ducati make more money out of merchendise than bikes. Geddit?

To answer the question Performance Friction carbon metallic is what I collected from JHP, so good they boiled the brake fluid in 3 laps

so not very good then? I would want a longer session than that.

Well once I changed the fluid and put some pukka high temp stuff in they seemed to work better just need stronger arms/wrists now
