Another top day out

Just got back from the Dales Dash Classic ride and what a day. I headed out early this morning, got to Kirkby Stephen and decided I'd go to Askrigg via Nine Standard Riggs and Buttertubs which on the Smart possibly wasn't the most sensible idea especially when the rain started dropping into Swaledale  Sport classic riding position, retro tyre pattern and wet single track roads don't go together. Met up with fellow Smart owner Rich C at the White Rose and then joined the classic owners getting ready before going out to Ribblehead to take photos, 239Desmo joined us and we then headed off to Ingleton, waved bye to Rich and on to Devils where we bumped into Steve999 ( name change now needed) and Pauline and then Martin H and Tom appeared along with a couple from Millom who's forum names i don't know . Sat on wall chatting as one does then up to Sedburgh and back to cafe at Hawes where we had a late lunch and said our goodbyes, Stewart going east to Harrogate me west and then deciding to come home via Mallerstang.

I've quickly added a photo gallery of the day here

loads of images of classic Ducati's out in the rain :)

big thanks to Rich and Stewart for the company, it was amazing being out with another Smart and a real sport classic 750 at the same time, I now know I've made the right decision getting rid of the 999, its been a while since i enjoyed Ducati ownership as much as i did today.

And even bigger thanks to Rich who kindly gave me a load of Smart LE memorabilia :)

here's a taster of the photos.....

Had a top day out today! Thanks to Michael for letting me tag along.
Had a good run from Leeds, via Ripon, Masham, Leyburn to Askrigg. Quiet and dry roads all the way which made for great fun. Got a bit of cold reception from the DOC lot at the hotel when I arrived on my own, but they soon seemed to warm up. Bit of wet run to the photo point at Ribblehead, the scenery made for it though. Left Michael and 239desmo at Ingleton and a steady run back home.
Hopped onto the ST2, picked up my mate Christine, then up to Ducati Leeds to see Jamie Whitham. Met Steve999 and Pauline there (he got back from Devils quick). Bit of a chat with the Whitham, who is a top bloke. Although he did sign Christine's book 'love' Jamie, but not mine. Not happy! Left DL to head for Squires for a coffee, got a wave and a see ya from Whitham.
Back at home for 6 ish. Just in time for a someone to view the ST2. Who bought it.

Just sat with a pint, a good end to the day.

Big cheers to Michael. Like you said, it's been a while since I've enjoyed Ducati ownership as much as today. It's a bit special to ride with some older machines.

 Cheers!!

thanks for the company today Rich and good news on selling the ST2!!

we need to get another sport classic day arranged for next year :)

Great pics. Stewart told me he was gonna be out of Computer range this weekend, he didn't tell me he was gonna be riding his GT in crap weather down south, great image of him, give it a sepia tone and he could be back then in nineteenhundredshootmedead again or thereabouts!!! :p Nice pics of all the bikes actually and the PS1000! :)

Looks to have been a great day out, with some nice bikes on show. Recognised a few faces from this year's Motogiro Race.

In one photo there looks a guy who looks suspiciously like Graham Stoppani, now I can't believe he rode his Darmah up from Northampton

Some great photo's there...

Suprised myself, RJ & Duncthediver didn't see you.. We've been upto Whitby and back home via Ripon/ Harrogate....

Was a great week end, we managed to get the support Transit airborne over a bridge and errr stuck in a stream, proper use of a hire van !!! Graham did not ride it up from Northampton, and the little ones were vanned up but still did about 350 miles over the two days.

Was nice to see the new bikes with the old and the noise going round was superb. It has to be done again but hopefully in the sunshine.

Have i missed something whilst i've been away Michael?

Have you bought a SPort Classic?

I did Buttertubs last Sunday also. All in all about 250 miles on my Multi. Grounded the centrestand on one dip/bend. Kirkby Stephen, Pickering, Barnard Castle and Devil's too. Enjoyed it so much we are doing it again this Sunday with a visit to Hartside, weather being reasonable. I have to enlighten my Jap Crap friends to the finer things in life. We are setting off at 7:30 am from Burnley. Went up the Muker past 'Crackpot' but missed 'Winston'.

Michael, just had a proper look through the photos you took on the day.

Sums up beautifully what "Classic" (old and new) biking is all about.

Open roads with great scenery and nice people. No hurry to get to where you are going. (apart from going to the tea stops every 20 minutes which then causes further unplanned stops)

Hope this becomes a regular style event in the DuN area.

Many thanks again for the images and the company on the day.:)

Different to here Pete.
High hedges and walls at parts that we don't have. The odd stretch of cow s**t in the middle of the road without warning is interesting in the damp.
Suspect more difficult to ride as fast as in the Highlands but can see why people "try harder" in the Dales.
If you know the roads it would be great. Odd bike coming the opposite way running wide would suggest some don't know the road as well as they think.
Like this idea of tea breaks and talking rubbish every 20 mins.:lol2:
Strange seeing so many bikes out and about whereas we could go for miles and not see another vehicle.
For a change I really enjoyed it. Following Michael who knew the roads made life easier. Suspect he may have nodded off a couple of times waiting for me though! :lol2:
Noticed a fair percentage of riders didn't wave or nod which would be unusual with us. Perhaps down to numbers of bikes and not as "unusual" as here.
Would recommend it to anyone fancying a change. I preferred the "B" roads as they were quieter and you had a chance to appreciate the scenery. (and more trees after 4 cups of tea!;) )
