Obviously this has been a touchy subject recently, especially for me, anyway some points have been raised in the other thread and it would be interesting to know your thoughts, so fire away - please note that the purpose of this thread is NOT dis-agreement, or agreement, it is for you to write your thoughts about the event and what you would like to see from it.

May I respectfully ask that no-one replies to anothers post, just write your thoughts and leave it, it will be very helpful.

Hi

I hope that this is in the right direction to getting RTL arranged, but I think that maybe mid to late July is possibly a better bet to arrange it (july is good for me, if thats when it happens I'll join it). With the IOM at the beginning of June and WDW at the end, plus other events such as family commitments I appreciate that not everyone can make it.

If I can help in anyway, shape or form just PM me, I'll do my best. Can the organiser/s get 2 or 3 possible dates together and post them, then everyone will get an idea of when it might be or happen please??

Thanks and regards

:comp2:

Ive committed myself to WDW now. Personally,I might, might not go, depends on dates, Im just going for the banter anyways. As long as there is a bar Im happy! :D

I would love for RTL to go ahead in a similar format to the previous years, but recognise that this needs considerable effort to get it organised to the right standard to keep people coming back each year.

Due to there being plenty of other events this year that will no doubt reduce the numbers I think it would be a good idea to save RTL until next year and for this year to organise a slightly different style of event, based more on open road riding... 'raid up north' maybe?

Rather than the full on event with nice hotel etc, this could be a more economical one/two day event with the option for people to say over in a centralised location. Possible locations could be anywhere from Penrith/Kendal/KLons etc

With a one day event it would be possible to have a couple of groups doing a similar/same route but at varying speeds to ensure that safety is maintained but those that want a bit more excitement get to play.

I would be more than happy to lead a group of more sedate riders that wanted to try ride the good routes but also experience less pressure and see the countryside.

By making it a up north event rather than RTL it allows more freedom of riding and gives the likes of Pete and Martin chance to organise and show off some of their fav roads and routes.

By making it a formal announcement that RTL will be back next year bigger and better it allows those that want to come time to prepare and those organising time to get things planned well in advance.

Hopefully this would keep everyone happy.

As long as there is a bar Im happy! :D

i think the number of people who turn up dictate the pace to a great extent

have done some 'rapid' rides out with some of the hartside crowd and as such at each junction we can wait for a regroup obviously cant be done as easy in a bigger group

( i feel like im telling my gran how to suck eggs here )

think the largest group ride ive done has been with the monster club at arrow mill 60 odd with (i assume) a lot of novice riders realy is a crawl to the nearest pub then a split into smaller groups

and ive heard that the likes of egg runs christmass toy runs are a 20-30 mph procession rather than a ride out

(thins must be my opinion bit)

I think the RTL route does well at keeping a steady speed with effectivly big groups

i myself prefer twistyer roads to keep my interest

i think RTL is possibly more a social event rather than a rideing event

having said that i wanta ride an all

humm i thought i had some point to this post but now im not so sure

Mmmmmmm (god damn)

Lily has hit the nail on the head here (I hate it when that happens) just kidding... Yeah just as I feared when reading and typing the various threads, maybe its too late to get an event such as RTL arranged this year as it would appear that everyone has got various things organized and planned thoughout the year already :0(. However the mention of an overnight stay in or near the lakes on 1 or 2 weekends or even a few Sunday "dawn raid" rides around The Lakes. Possibly utilising some of the roads used on the RTL event, maybe Pete, Lily and a few others can assist here and make some suggestions (I don't know the roads well enough sadly) etc.

Lily you gave me food for thought here, hope a few others decide that its a good idea too that you've had here. Look forward to reading some more threads about the "raid up north" trip/s...

Regards

Cliche it may be but "you can't please all of the people all of the time" is never truer when trying to organise stuff. IMHO from the point of view of taking in just one day of the RTL 05 and RTL 06 the format is great, that kept as many happy as possible.

For me the chitty chat sat around at Ravensglass on a sunny day is as important as enjoying the great roads to get there and get back at a sedate pace. Others wanna ride more or faster that seems to be catered for as well.

I don't underestimate the effort that goes in to the organisation, in some respects that is reflected in distance and effort others put into taking part.

For the past two years RTL has been a "must do" along with a handful of other Ducati related stuff.

Another "problem" that is very nice to have is the success of the event, that adds a certain pressure to the organisers to make it bigger and better every year but IMHO numbers don't matter that much as long as those that join in enjoy it, better to have 30 turn up and say it was an event to remember than have 40 turn up and say never again?

Roll on RTL or RuN,

Ray

RTL06, my thoughts.

It was fecking good!

Although I kinda did my own thing, and didn't ride in any of the groups, I did enjoy the route. I didn't ride on the Sunday as we had to get back up the road, but would have if we'd had more time off work.

The venue was fantastic, breathtaking in fact.

I really enjoyed the social aspects of this meet, and that the location encouraged north / south participants.

All in, it was a fantastic, well thought out and organised event. Hosted in a beautiful area, on great roads I'd never ridden. I'd like to see more.

As Ray says "you can't please all of the people all of the time" and is worth remembering when there are just so many participants.

What ever is decided can we ask England to play an international game? As the roads were perfectly quiet last year.

I'm up for owt me, gets me away from the wife for a few hours. :)

I loved the Layout of last years.I can ride "fast" all year round if i want, for one event a year i don't mind slowing it down!

To me the Social side is as good as the riding, the meal and setting were superb.I'd like the same as 2006 please.

I would agree with all the above.

What we need is a date then folks can either sadly accept that they're doing something else that day/weekend or mark it in their diaries

I'd prefer late July and a weekend cos I like the social bit as much as the riding. If I'm able to get there, am prepared to help any way I can

I really wanted to do this last year, but...actually I can't remember why I couldn't do it :scratchhead: Anyway, I really want to go this year. As a newcomer it'll be a whole new experience for me, so I don't have any opinions on things like routes etc...bit of riding and a bit of the craic...cannae say fairer than that...really looking forward to it :D

If we go on last years route then all the paperwork for it has already been done. Same hotel, B&B and campsite in a lovely village with petrol station.
T-shirt design just needs the date changing, take orders & cheques on the day, I'll do it if nobody better suited wants to do it. Start Friday afternoon and the same routes home on Sunday. I'll try and finish it this time as I didn't quite make it last year  Book the weather :fire: :flame2: :flame:

I really enjoyed RTL last year, even though I only managed the Sunday. I rode up from Harrogate with Pete & Screwy, we slowed Pete down on the way up as I'm not a particularly fast rider. We were in the slow group for the ride out, and still got lost, and got back the hotel last. Screwy had bike problems on the way back. It was a long day and eventful day, BUT I LOVED IT!!

RTL for me is about riding in great scenery, on good roads, with my friends or soon to be friends, and having a good laugh and a pint.

The same format as last year is fine by me. If it doesn't clash with Goodwood or my missus's birthday I'll be there. Hopefully for the full weekend. If I can help in some way, I will try my best.

Like Ray said, Roll on RTL.

Rich :D :D

RTL'06 was a very much last minute thing fro me , Jasper very kindly took me tent over in his car, met up with Dseered n the southern crrw at \Kirkby Lonsdale by chance and my weekend startes athen, the craic was really the memorable part for me as it was hte first time id mest mot of the guys on here, the riding was secondary. if it were to happen agian id like it ti be the same, theres prolly 2wice the number of members since '06 so lots of new people to meet.

the inn on the lake was an awesome setting and althugh i prolly wouldnt opt tfor the meal there and have a pub tea instead, i think the use of the bar there and the grounds was great.

i would also camp again as once the patry at the hotel ended it kinad started againd at the camp site.

RTL should be kept just that, IMHO

I would dearly love to do it this year as I was gutted that I couldn't attend last year....but like everyone else it depends on the date.

Don't care what roads or route .... it would just be great to get together, have a run and then some banter afterwards with some good food craic.
:)

I attended quite a few DUN events last year. The one thing that struck me more than others was the lack of personal agenda's. I mean by that comment that everyone seemed happy to have a good time, no-one wanted recognition for organising events or helping out. No-one wanted to be seen as the "Leader". There was absolutely no ownership of events.

That is what appeals about DUN. With out the fantastic atmosphere of the events, the riding and the social side are equally unimportant. RTL 06 was a huge success, I didn't make it but I have not heard a negative comment. RTL 07 is in danger of being a non-event unless differences are put to one side and the common aim is what becomes priority. I hope RTL 07 happens, I hope I am there and I hope that we can either get on or agree to disagree in a more pragmatic way.

Paul.

I agree with everything Paul has said . I am really looking forward to RTL this year if it comes off . I think the social side is more important than the riding ( 60/40) . I can organise a rideout anytime , but not a social evening.

Regards different levels rider skill/speed , I just don't think putting a group of people who don't know each others skill levels/riding ability together, then riding hard is a good idea (don't get me wrong, I like to ride hard) . Its asking for an accident ( specially in the lakes) which would just wreck the weekend.

Sharing everyone Else's company and meeting friends is what I think ( Ive not been on one yet ) the weekend should be about .

If folks want to go for a blast , thats great , perhaps they can organise to do it on the way to the event , or in a little group of people they know ride like they do, still meeting up later.

Anyway whatever , I hope it goes ahead

I think an event of some sort should run whatever the name.

I attended the first one, but only made day 2 at Devils Bridge of last years as i'd just driven back from family holiday in France. This meant i missed the BIG night out at Ullswater which i think by the sounds of it was very memorable. Both times were throughly enjoyable.

Personally when there are large numbers of bikes involved it should be more of a social/leisure ride. I don't like riding briskly with big groups and folks you haven't ridden with, leads to potential problems.

Much though it pains me to agree with a woman but Lily has summed it up quite nicely.

I'd volunteer my services to run lead a group if required, or even meet up with some of the Southerners en route and lead them up via a good route. Having said that my calender for this year is already pretty full with family stuff, bike trips, weddings, funerals (yes i'm planning on killing a few people this year and just setting the dates now:D ) and hair appointments.

Good luck to Rockjock and Martin for taking up the challenge.

i really enjoyed it last time.
and for me it was the whole package
the ride up with me mates, the banter in the bar, getting very very very drunk, the beutiful scenery, meeting new peeps and the riding of course
i went off with the fast group and we really hamered round some of those roads, looking back if i had the choice again i'd have gone with the main group and had a better look at some of the scenary.
as for this year i'm hoping to do a bit more of a tour and one of my plans involves heading up to RTL 07 then tagging on to some of our scotish bretherin and going up to the highlands for a few days.
just waiting for dates :D

my thoughts on RTL

Give me a date - I'll be there or i won't
If I can make it - tell me where & when to meet
give me a couple of options of routes I'll make my mind up on the day
& when the days riding is over - let me know where we meet for a pint & I'll find somewhere to stay & join you.

OK, someone has to say it publicly - Mike went to the Inn on the Lake last night and was informed that there were no dates at all available this year. Therefore RTL would not happen. This was announced on the private forum last night and, as yet, not on here. Why, I don't know, but see my new thread about the alternative event. You might like it :D
