Hiya, :wave: aspiring Ducati owner, halfway through the CBT!!

Twelve months ago my other half got himslef a bike and all our mates said I would only get on it if he bought a sidecar. A year on I'm loving the pillion experience on a Multistrada so much I'm just about though my CBT and find myself in a bit of a dilemma - do I stick where I am for a while and potter about on a wee 125 or do I go for it??

The money's behind the bar, especially if you're drinking a Macallan. All suggestions (about the bike!!) considered . . . and maybe even while sober.

P.S. For those of you who've already met him , I'm PaulV's better half (and Scottish) and have a lot of stories to tell!!

Get the CBT done and see how you feel after that - if you still wanna go through with it then go for direct access :thumbs:

Scottch - you might be looking to see me on a run soon but I think I've seen you on one already!! Were you on the Hizzy run wearing Ducati leathers?

We've also got a multi and after 15 years or so of riding pillion I got a strange urge to do my CBT in April :eek:

Found the CBT relatively easy and couldn't believe that afternoon I was riding around Lancaster city centre despite never so much as having turned the throttle on a bike until that morning.

Two weeks after the CBT I bought an Aprilia RS125- which I love - and I've been following Michael (Gizmo) around trying to get out twice a week.

In May I did my theory & hazard perception test - yes even though I passed my driving test 17 years ago you still have to do it.

My dilema was then whether to go for 125 test (which limits you to 33 bhp for 2 years) or do direct access. Although I'm not a particularly sporty or fast rider I did find the 125 lacked a bit of oomph say on an overtake or dual carriageway so I decided to bite the bullet and put in for direct access so I could then ride whatever bike I wanted.

Next problem was my height - 5'1" (and my legs aren't very long either) :o so I was struggling to find a training school with a small enough large bike (if you understand what I mean) to train & do my test on. Was struggling to find anyone local and then found the BMW school in Wales. They use 650s which are relatively low anyway but also have a lowered bike. Decided to treat it as a bit of a holiday so we booked a cottage and a four day direct access course with them. Test was booked by them for the morning of the fifth day.

Found the course pretty tough (see my post in the congratulations thread started by Lily) but got through it and passed my test on Wednesday this week :D

Would recommend the course to anyone and the fact that we were away from home meant it was no hassle devoting the time to the training. Have been looking at an Aprilia pegaso strada today and I think I could be reaching for my cheque book by the end of the week :thumbs: would love to buy a duc but don't think I'm quite ready for one yet.

Oh and BTW I'll have a glass of nicely chilled pinot grigio please ;)

Not me mate - I was on the Panzer (BMW GS) with my daughter on the back.

Sorry - didn't meet you that time, sometime soon though!

Cheers for that Linzi, I know what you mean about the 125 not having enough oomph and I can see me buying a 125 now and then in a few months time end up changing it. Although the 125 feels fast when you've never been in control of a bike before I can see how that would change pretty quickly.

Hubby (PaulV) did his test direct access last June and bought a Suzuki GSX600F which turned into a Multistrada 1000DS after about 8 months.

Like the sound of doing the Direct Access as part of a holiday although I also really like the guys at Two Wheels in Edinburgh where I've been up to now.

Congrats on passing anyway - let us know how you get on and I'll join you in the pinot grigio!!

hi muppet/sue i dont know you at all but i do know paul........so youve got lots of stories to tell about him ,please hurry up and let us know,its good to have more amunition;) .at the moment im learning to be a cbt instructor but with csm at seafield a far superior place to two wheel(only joking)so i know what its like having to learn again.if your ever out, ive got the wee bike clothing shop on dalkeith road ,so feel free to drop by for a tea or coffee and you can give me amunition, i mean tell me interesting stories about paul;) ;)

Suz could tell you all the stories bout me you wanted, and there are quite a few, but with your spelling and grammer, I would be long dead before anyone on here would be able to decipher them:finger: :moon: :rofl:

Suz, you tell him anything and you can build your own garage for whatever bike you get!!!!!!!:thumbs: :thumbs: and he doesn't have any puppies in the back of his shop either!!!

Hi Muppet.Glad to see you've taken the plunge and joined the site.
I'll have a wee whiky if you don't mind and i'd suggest the new 695 or a 620 to start off with if you go das.:beer: :thumbs:
 
hi muppet, welcome to dun the liveliest ducati site around! the 620 or 695 monster can be lowered quite a bit and i think ducati do a seat that makes it a bit easier too, a :tea: cup of tea please, oh, that's good timing, a nurse has just put a cup in front of me and i didn't have to ask!
 
Hiya Muppet, nice to have you along. I was on the Hizzy run, don't think we met though. (So many folks, so much to do, so little time - gutted that I didn't get to chat to Nic but I'll try to catch you both next time.)

Cheers for all the advice guys, had my first run out on 'proper' roads yesterday and LOVED it :whoohoo: Looking forward to more of that over the next few weeks.

Glad I'm not having to concentrate on the bike riding this morning after a very boozy night in an Italian last night :sick:

Im a bit of a newbie on here too but I def think you should do the d/a course and go for it girl. My monster was my first bike - wee bit scary after only having ridden a 125 for 2 months but did the d/a immediately
and just love it now. Would never part with it E V E R !!!!:hail:
