I know it's been mentioned recently but thought this might be of interest to some...


 
I wonder what will happen when all the heat pumps start to cool the earths core :unsure:
The theory is you extract the heat in winter and the sun replaces it in summer (good luck with that in the UK).

In terms of energy efficiency heat pumps are excellent but with the cost of electricity approx. 3x the cost of gas the financial efficiency doesn't easily stack up. Summer is great (when you don't really need it) and winter is a struggle (when you do need it). In winter you effectively have direct electric heating (expensive) and summer you have really cheap direct electric heating (approx. 75% cheaper but 75% cheaper than feck all anyway is a bit shit).

I predict stockpiling of LPG and Oil boilers coming up....

Barry I think you were sold an undersized heat pump v your required heating needs.
The rating is given at 8°C ambient, when given your latitude that rating at zero °C would have given a better sizing.
Further the water temperature should be fixed at 35°C, this prevents the internal immersion heaters from switching on.
You really need underfloor heating spaced for 35°C water and not 55°C water to get the right kW rating to heat the rooms.

A lot of snake oil salesman in our game..... but I'm not one of them.

It was in the house when we bought it and installed from new, no idea about the underfloor spec but it seems ok downstairs but upstairs rads are too small for sure. Aa we're always potentially moving I've not changed them 😁

Unless you have green blood and consider eco-terrorism in your nature I recommend avoiding air to water heat pumps.
Currently there are very few situations where they make economic sense.
Off the gas Grid.... then consider them as part of an overall heating plan with a burning fuel for hot water and the coldest two months.

Air to Air is brilliant for outdoor offices/prayer rooms/ Dad dens/ man caves and motorcycle garages.
Cooling in the summer and heating in the winter.

We have whole houses heated with air to air heat pumps, but at 3-5 times the cost of a conventional heating system.

Yes I’m sure the sun heats the ground up to 300 ft … not
would be surprised if it heated the ground to 6ft

The Climate change mob appears to be more like a Cult / religious movement every day, the sums regarding Changes to Heat exchangers etc dont add up..
the investments will never amortise ( Eu / germany prices) as the investment is so high
